Activities at Lilayi Lodge
For the more adventurous, Lilayi offers a horseback safari. From this elevated position visitors can expect to view an abundance of wild life including zebra, giraffe, wildebeest and a wide variety of antelope. Guests have an option between a 1 and 2-hour ride, and booking is essential.
Please note that the horseback safari is only offered to experienced riders and guests will be required to fill out an indemnity form prior to the activity.
Lilayi Elephant Nursery
A dear asset to Lilayi is that of the Lilayi Elephant Nursery. Managed by Game Rangers International and established with ongoing critical support from the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, the Nursery rescues and rehabilitates orphaned elephant calves who can be viewed daily, between 11h30 – 13h00, from the viewing platform located near the entrance to the game park.
Safari Bush Walk
Guests have the option to explore the area on foot by means of a guided walk. A bush walk enables visitors to be close to nature and creates an excellent opportunity for birdwatchers to view the abundance of bird species. A good pair of binoculars is recommended in order to better identify the different species, which include various Flycatchers, Helmet Shrikes, Turacos and Sunbirds amongst others. A bush walk at Lilayi will allow you to relax and enjoy all that nature has to offer.
Safari Game Drive
Lilayi offers 650 hectares of unspoiled grassland, which is inhabited by nearly 23 different species of mammal and more than 300 bird species. A game drive in an open vehicle is one of the most exciting ways to explore the area. A highly skilled guide will accompany safari-goers, and inform them about the rare and beautiful animals viewed during the drive. Listed amongst these are the majestic Roan Antelope, Lichtenstein’s Hartebeest and Tsessebe.
Walk With The Elephants (Behind the scenes tour of the Lilayi Elephant Nursury)
A unique experience reserved exclusively for Lilayi Lodge in-house guests is the Behind The Scenes Tour of the Lilayi Elephant Nursery. Guests are guided through the camp where they are given an intimate explanation of the Elephant Orphanage Project, followed by a walk in the bush with the elephants. There is not contact made with the Elephant Orphans.
The cost of the activity is a donation and goes 100% towards the elephants and conservation in Zambia.
Maximum of 4 people per walk and must be booked well in advance.
