Aardwolf Safari

Two sister-camps within private concessions bordering Moremi Game Reserve offer access to excellent game, varied landscapes and a range of land and water-based safari activities. A great-value safari in one of Botswana’s best wildlife regions.

Aardwolf Safari: Summary

Aardwolf Safari in a nutshell

Explore the Okavango Delta’s rich ecosystems with stays in two smart, good-value sister-camps that border Moremi Game Reserve.

Beginning on the Khwai riverfront, Machaba Camp sits in a tranquil region renowned for excellent game. Unlike the Okavango Delta, Khwai River isn’t dependent on annual floods, making it a great birding and wildlife destination all year round. The camp is also good for water-based activities, offering mokoro excursions and boating trips as another means of getting up close to the birdlife. Off-road driving, guided bush walks and night drives are further additions to the day 4x4 game drives available in this private concession.

Gomoti Plains Camp is similarly smart, with a classic tented design and the same high standards of guiding and management experienced at Machaba. The camp overlooks a tributary of the nearby Gomoti River and the surrounding habitat is particularly diverse: riverine forest blends into floodplains, grasslands and mopane woodlands, providing suitable habitat for a plethora of exciting species.

Here too, bush walks, mokoro excursions and boat trips accompany the morning and afternoon game drives. The camp’s private concession is visted slightly less than its neighbours, allowing for a more exclusive experience.

Leopards, wild dogs and rhino might all be seen throughout this trip, as well as a good diversity of birdlife and antelope, and these thrilling sightings coupled with the potential for long-stay discounts make for an excellent-value safari within one of Botswana’s best wildlife regions.

Machaba Camp

Days 1-4

Opened in 2013, Machaba Camp is located along the Khwai riverfront, looking across to the Moremi Game Reserve. The camp lies to the east of the Khwai Community Concession, a tranquil, open spot along the river, backed by a sparse forest of sycamore figs, and with plenty of wildlife. Machaba is spacious yet traditional in feel, and very comfortable.

Gomoti Plains Camp

Days 4-6

Overlooking a tributary of the Gomoti River, the classic Gomoti Plains Camp is in a beautiful location. It was opened in April 2017 in a private, community-run concession (NG32) in the south-east of Botswana's Okavango Delta. Surrounded by riverine forest with tall, elegant fan palms, leadwoods and knobthorn trees, it offers a good diversity of wildlife.

Helicopter Flight - Botswana

Helicopter Flight - Botswana

Various: from 30 minutes to half a day.

Low-flying, agile and offering superb views, helicopters are an ideal way to move around the Okavango Delta. You can use them instead of fixed-wing inter-lodge transfers or as an addition to other wildlife watching activities, and of course, helicopters can hover to allow that perfect pic, whereas fixed-wings can’t.
