Spring Hare Safari

An authentic and diverse safari to Botswana combining the Chobe Forest Reserve, Savuti Marshes and the Okavango Delta. Strong wildlife viewing, a variety of activities and excellent value camps.

Spring Hare Safari: Summary

Spring Hare Safari in a nutshell

This superb-value nine-night safari includes three key wildlife viewing areas in northern Botswana – the Chobe Forest Reserve, the Savuti Marsh and the Okavango Delta.

You will stay at three camps each located in areas buzzing with animals, exploring the wilderness in the capable hands of experienced guides. The varying habitats on this trip will deliver a superb safari with a welcome mix of activities such as day and night game drives, guided walks, boat excursions and mokoro canoe trips.

There are more luxurious camps out there, but these three are all very comfortable with highly efficient teams of staff. If you are looking for a good quality, authentic Botswana safari without some of the luxuries that are often found here.

You’ll fly between each area and camp on stunning light-aircraft flights. These hops are often spectacular, giving you a real insight into the landscapes and landforms which make up the Chobe, Savuti and Okavango Delta, as well as the chance to spot some of the larger animals from the air.

Muchenje Safari Lodge

Days 1-4

From high on the escarpment, Muchenje Safari Lodge overlooks a seasonal floodplain of the Chobe River. From this peaceful spot within Chobe Forest Reserve, with Namibia's Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip) in the distance and about 60km west of the bustling town of Kasane, this traditional lodge has the advantage of operating game drives in a relatively quiet area of the Chobe Riverfront.

Savute Safari Lodge

Days 4-7

Perched on the banks of the Savuti Channel within Chobe National Park, Savute Safari Lodge offers a good location from which to explore the nearby Savuti Marshes. Comfortable without being luxurious, the camp enjoys views over the Savute Channel and its two pumped waterholes, which – especially during the dry season – attract vast numbers of elephant to drink in the afternoons and evenings.

Pom Pom Camp

Days 7-10

On the western side of Botswana’s Moremi Game Reserve, Pom Pom Camp sits on an island of the same name. It’s a very scenic area where swathes of floodplain grasslands are dotted with small islands of acacia woodland – typical of many people's image of the Delta. The nine-room tented camp overlooks the reed-fringed Pom Pom Lagoon, which shrinks to a waterhole in the dry season, but in the flood season is covered with water lilies and popular with hippos.

Please note that Pom Pom will be closed for a refurbishment from 1 October 2025 to 30 April 2026.

Side-trips whilst on this safari

We may be able to build in some of these optional excursions from the Spring Hare Safari. Talk to us: they’re usually best arranged when you book.

Helicopter Flight - Botswana

Helicopter Flight - Botswana

Various: from 30 minutes to half a day.

Low-flying, agile and offering superb views, helicopters are an ideal way to move around the Okavango Delta. You can use them instead of fixed-wing inter-lodge transfers or as an addition to other wildlife watching activities, and of course, helicopters can hover to allow that perfect pic, whereas fixed-wings can’t.
