"Disappointing"

Based at Sam's Giardino on 8 Aug 2010
"One of the few poor experiences of our trip. Disappointing after all the postive comments we had read. We booked this through Expert Africa at a cost of (we think) £90 EACH and it was definitely not worth this.

The trip runs from 8.30am until approx 5.00pm and is dependant on the tide to get in and out of Sandwich Harbour safely. With this in mind we ended up with only 10 mins at Sandwich Harbour - only just making it back before the tide cut us off - scarey. Why could we have not left earlier or gone to the Harbour later in the afternoon tide to avoid this problem. After, we felt the guide (a part time locum) didn't know what else to do with us as we had an overlong lunch to use up time and then a trip to Pelican Point which was exactly where we were to go the following day for kayaking. Surely something else could have been arranged involving the desert/dunes as this is what we thought the trip was all about. Alternatively they could have bought us back early and offered a part refund. In short our £180 bought 10 minutes at Sandwich bay and an expensive lunch. Not good." Read more about this whole safari

"Good - but not quite what we expected"

Based at Beach Lodge on 29 Jul 2010
"We enjoyed our pre booked Namib Desert tour but it did not deliver what we had expected. Andrew, our guide, had only once been to the "Horses Graveyard' which he said was very difficult to find and couldn't be reached in the long wheelbase Landrover we were in; we never saw Goanikontes Oasis and much to our disappointment there was no 'exciting 4x4 dune-driving' - just driving on roads. Lunch was great but the afternoon felt as if we were just passing time so that we didn't return to the hotel until 5pm as the schedule suggested. A nice enough day but disappointing compared with our expectations." Read more about this whole safari

"GREAT DAY OUT"

Based at Sam's Giardino on 15 May 2010
"AN EXCELLENT TRIP. WE ESPECIALLY ENJOYED ALL THE WILDLIFE- FLAMINGOS, PELICANS AND SEA BIRDS. WAYNE THE GUIDE WAS GREAT COMPANY AND VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE. WE SAW THE CARAPACE OF A SADLY LONG DEAD TURTLE, DISCOVERED THE ARCHEOLOGICAL REMAINS LEFT BY LONG AGO INHABITANTS, THE SHOVEL SNOUTED LIZARD AND LEARNED MUCH ABOUT THE DIFFERENT DUNES. THE LUNCH WAS EXCELLENT AND THE WHOLE DAY WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY. Thank you Wayne." Read more about this whole safari

"The best outing ever"

Based at Lagoon Lodge on 20 May 2010
"Worth every minute.

Astonishingly exciting and vivid, but also lovely peaceful moments hiking up the dunes and dabbling our toes in the ocean. Bruno produced a puff adder out of a little clump of bushes and answered our endless questions about the environment/history of the area.We felt lucky to be guided by Bruno, with all his years of experience." "Turnstone Tours - Sandwich Harbour day trip"

Based at Sam's Giardino on 29 Jan 2010
"This is a fascinating guided trip to an otherwise inaccessible area. Our guide, Wayne, was highly knowledgeable about the area's history, geology and its highly adapted flora and fauna. There is great beauty here: spectacular dune-top views of breakers meeting sand cliffs, countless flamingos gathered in shallow water. Wild and splendid!" Read more about this whole safari

"We were lucky to be taking out by the owner Bruno - great overlooking the Atlantic and a great lunch; tremendously interesting time with Bruno but we could have done without so much riding over dunes.... Half a day would have been good for us." Read more about this whole safari

"Don't miss out on this visit"

Based at Sam's Giardino on 13 Oct 2009
"Ernest is an extremely knowledgable and experienced guide and the picnic lunch he provided was excellent. I was impressed with his driving of the middle aged Landrover but most of all I was impressed with the outing. From the flaminoges on the Walvis Bay lagoon to the singing dunes. It was an amazing day out which I would recommend to anyone" Read more about this whole safari
