Ruppell's Korhaan Fly-in Safari

Explore Namibia’s remotest wildernesses while staying at some of the most exclusive luxury camps in the country. This epic fly-in safari will deliver otherworldly landscapes, fascinating wildlife and genuine cultural experiences.

Ruppell's Korhaan Fly-in Safari: Summary

Rüppell's Korhaan Fly-in in a nutshell

This is a prope-in adventure exploring the most remote and breath-taking landscapes in Namibia with stays at some of its most exclusive luxury camps.

After a night in Windhoek, fly north to the rolling rocky hills and desiccated savannahs of Damaraland and the immense Palmwag Concession. Home to Desert Rhino Camp and the largest free roaming population of black rhino in Africa, the speciality here is tracking its these incredible and rare animals on foot and learning about successful conservation efforts. Other species such as desert-adapted elephant, Hartmann's mountain zebra, giraffe, oryx, springbok and kudu along with wandering predators, like hyena, lion and leopard may be spotted too.

Next take an unforgettable flight to Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp, a chic oasis in the middle of a vast wilderness. Head on out game drives and walks in search of desert elephant, lion, giraffe and brown hyena, or head to the rocky shoreline to get an earful of the noisy Cape fur seal colony among the bones of whales and shipwrecks which gave this region its name.

Heading further north across almost Martian wilderness to the Angolan border which is marked by the Kunene River. Nested among the thin strip of green on its southern banks, find Serra Cafema, perhaps the most isolated camp in all Africa. A rare source of permanent water, it supports wildlife such as crocodile and a surprisingly rich array of birdlife which you can spot on boat trips and nature walks. The area is also home to the nomadic Himba people who you’ll get to meet in a respectful and genuine way.

Olive Grove

Day 1

The Olive Grove is a stylish guesthouse in Windhoek's Klein Windhoek suburb. Taking its name from the neighbouring grove of olive trees, the guesthouse is located in a renovated old house. It was opened in early 2004, and has become a favourite place to stay in Namibia's capital city.

Desert Rhino Camp

Days 2-4

Remote, exclusive and specialised, Desert Rhino Camp lies in the vast Palmwag Concession. This semi-desert reserve of about 5,000km² between Etosha National Park and the Skeleton Coast is one of the best places to see desert-dwelling black rhino and other desert-adapted wildlife. The camp has been operating for more than 20 years and its activities – run by a reliably superb and committed team – centre on tracking black rhino.

Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp

Days 4-7

Opened in August 2014, Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is a beautiful camp in a very remote location of northern Damaraland, about 1km outside the boundary of the Skeleton Coast National Park. Built in a private concession, or reserve, close to the ephemeral Hoanib River, it is surrounded by gravel plains, mountains and large yellow sand dunes. It is viewed as a successor to the Skeleton Coast Camp, which closed a few years ago.

Serra Cafema

Days 7-10

Serra Cafema stands as an oasis of luxury in perhaps Namibia's most remote wilderness. nestled at the extreme north-western tip where the expansive Hartmann Valley culminates. This luxurious lodge nestles in a lush belt of riverine forest beside the Kunene River, overlooking the mountains of Angola’s Iona National Park beyond. The juxtaposition of this vibrant river against the arid desert and rugged mountains creates an enchanting and unique setting.
