Red Colobus Monkey Safari

This luxury holiday suggestion combines a wildlife safari in Ruaha National Park with a week on Zanzibar, exploring Stone Town’s narrow streets and relaxing on a palm-shaded beach.

Red Colobus Monkey Safari: Summary

Red Colobus Monkey Safari in a nutshell

This suggested itinerary combines a luxurious safari lodge in southern Tanzania with a stay on Zanzibar, including historic Stone Town and a vibrant beach resort.

Your first stop is the remote Ruaha National Park, with its outstanding wildlife, in particular big populations of lions and elephants which can be found throughout the park. Ikuka Safari Camp has seven beautifully designed rooms and panoramic views over Ruaha.

From Ruaha, you fly to Zanzibar for two nights at the boutique Emerson Spice in Stone Town. This converted palace is packed full of Zanzibari charm and character and makes a great base for exploring the old town. Visit the cathedral and the excellent museum of the slave trade and wander the maze of shop-lined streets, before finishing the day watching the sunset over the harbour.

Leaving Stone Town you’ll be driven north to Zuri Zanzibar on the pretty north-west coast of the island. Opened in 2018, Zuri Zanzibar is a luxury beach resort on a palm-fringed stretch of beach. With 55 bungalows, a lively atmosphere and plenty of activities and facilities, this is the perfect place for rest and relaxation following your safari.

Days 1-5

Built high on the escarpment, the upmarket Ikuka Safari Camp has commanding views of Tanzania’s Ruaha National Park. It was opened in late 2016, about a 20-minute drive from the park’s best game-viewing areas, and stands out for its unique location.

Emerson Spice

Days 5-7

Colourful, stylish and with a strong sense of place, Emerson Spice is a boutique hotel in the heart of Stone Town. It is one of two similar sister hotels a minute's walk apart. A fabulous rooftop restaurant and individually designed rooms add considerably to the attraction.

Zuri Zanzibar

Days 7-12

Zuri Zanzibar is a luxurious, beach resort situated on Zanzibar's pretty north-west coast. This area of the island has a more steeply shelving coastline than Zanzibar's east coast, allowing you to swim in the sea throughout the day, and the west coast of Zanzibar also enjoys beautiful sunsets over the Indian Ocean.
