Standard rooms OK but Exec rooms better
Spent another single night here on the way home from Volcanoes National Park.
We were in a standard room (as booked). Room was quite good but much smaller and more "tired" than the executive room we had been given on the outbound journey.
Executive rooms are great
Spent 1 night here en-route between Serengeti and Volcanoes National Park.
They upgraded us to an executive room on the 5th floor, which was spacious and luxurious.
Great breakfast buffet.
Ideal base for Kigali
The Kigali Serena may not be an exciting option, but it is dependable and very good: rooms were large, beds were comfortable and the shower was excellent.
Meanwhile, the pool area is really lovely, and I was surprised by the high quality of the food, not just at the remarkable buffet breakfast but also at dinner one evening.
Kigali Serena Hotel review
Very convenient location. Good rooms and a beautiful outside pool area. Staff very friendly.
Food of a good quality without being exceptional, but the wine list and selection was excellent. Very pleased with this hotel.
Lovely room for a stopover
We were only here for a brief stop overnight before heading to safari.
The air conditioner wasn't working in our first room but the second was a standard business hotel room and had lovely amenities.

Kigali Serena Hotel review
Fine hotel to stay in for a flight stop over, however when we arrived a large group from US Aid had refused to check out and at 5pm they were still waiting for the delegates to return. Given that we had been up since 4am, trekked for 5 hours and then driven 3 hours to get to Kigali we were not impressed.
The hotel did not seem to know how to handle the large delegation nor how to communicate with us as to what the actual problem was. We finally got to our room about 2 hours after we arrived, which was well past their advertised check in time.
Comfortable way to stay in Kigali
This is a modern large hotel in Kigali - in fact it was the first major international hotel there.
It is well equipped has a large attractive looking swimming pool, although we did not get to try it.
We only used it for an overnight stay.
Expert Africa organised a private guide and 4WD for these travellers in Rwanda. They commented:
Patrick was an excellent guide and driver. We were in Rwanda for ten days and he took charge from our arrival in Kigali from the airport until he delivered us back to the airport for our departure.
He speaks excellent English and is very knowledgeable about Rwanda and about the places we visited. His driving of the 4x4 Toyota was skilled and competent so we always felt comfortable being driven by him. Our trip went absolutely to plan and to schedule thanks to his reliable and capable management - he delivered us for various trekking activities (chimpanzees, mountain gorillas and golden monkeys) and was waiting for us on our return.
He delivered everything that could be expected and is a very pleasant and interesting man as well.
A very high standard.
A very good quality hotel. We only stayed overnight but the staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The room was very comfortable and well equipped. The food at breakfast was of a high standard.
Our only concern was that they were unable to convert 20 dollar bills into low value ones suitable for tipping.
