Matemwe Lodge: picture gallery

The colour of the water around Matwmwe Lodge is a turquoise blue.
Matemwe Lodge is a high quality beach hotel in a beautiful location.
The lodge combines being fairly rustic and natural, with a good streak of quality.
The paths around the lodge…
... lead to individual cottages...
... which are strung out along the coral cliff, immediately above the beach.
Each cottage comes with its own veranda...
... complete with a comfy hammock, a great spot to relax and take in the ocean views.
Inside you'll find a large double bed swathed in a mosquito net...
... and plenty of cosy sofas for lounging.
Each cottage comes with a spacious en-suite bathroom...
... with a powerful rain shower...
... and some cottages also have a beautiful freestanding bath.
Two of the cottages have their own private plunge pool with views out towards Mnemba Island.
Matemwe Lodge is almost unique in being a small lodge with two large swimming pools.
Hence both pools are usually blissfully quiet!
Loungers by the higher of the two have a direct view of the ocean.
It can be hard to spot where the turquoise pool ends and the ocean begins.
Beside one pool is a pool bar - made of an old dhow - which is magically lit by lanterns at night.
Here there are numerous little corners, all decked with comfy couches.
Sample the delicious food at the restaurant...
... with tables overlooking the beach below.
One of the major attractions of Matemwe is its long, fine white beach.
Whichever way you look, you will see fine, white sand and the odd traditional dhow...
... and there are plenty of interesting rock features to explore.
In the mornings, dhows often sail right past the lodge, on their way north for the day.
The beautiful gardens are teeming with life...
... the tranquil spa offers a range of modern and traditional therapies...
... and there is even a chess set with prawns as pawns.
At the end of your stay you will find it hard to leave here!
It is difficult to resist raiding the colourful shop, especially as you sadly check out.
