This safari begins with 4 nights in the beautiful Liwonde National Park, south of Lake Malawi - a hotspot for bird watching - and finishes with 3 nights on a remote island off the shore of Lake Malawi.


Days 1-4

4 nights at Mvuu Wilderness Lodge (full board & activities) | Liwonde National Park, Malawi

Mvuu means hippo in the local language and the lodge is aptly named.On arrival at Lilongwe Airport you will be transferred by road to Liwonde National Park, a 4-hour journey. Liwonde National Park encompasses the wide Shire River, as well as lagoons, open savanna and mopane woodland – all of which support a wide variety of plants, animals and birdlife. Here you will spend 4 nights at Mvuu Lodge, situated in the north-west of this lush and tropical park. It offers boat trips and day and night game drives. Boat trips on the Shire River are the highlight and are the best way of seeing the park's elephants as well as the huge crocodiles and the birdlife. With so few predators in Liwonde walking safaris with qualified scouts are also possible.

Days 5-7

3 nights at Mumbo Island (full board & activities) | Shore of Lake Malawi, Malawi

The rooms at Mumbo are perched on rocky outcrops with lovely views of the lake.After breakfast you will be driven by road to Cape Maclear, on the southern shore of Lake Malawi, a journey of roughly four hours. From here you will be transferred by boat, a journey of about 45 minutes, to Mumbo Island, where you will spend the next 3 nights.

Day 8

On your final morning you will be transferred by boat back to Cape Maclear and on to Lilongwe by road – about a 4 hour journey, for your onward arrangements.
