South-west Zanzibar

There are some excellent dive sites in south-west Zanzibar

South-west Zanzibar is the quietest part of the Island.

There are only a few but very lovely accommodation options...

...which are great for relaxing on the beach...

...as well as by the pool.

The beaches are amazing for swimming...

...and there is a lot to discover under the water’s surface.

"Zanzibar another holiday we will not forget"

I visited Zanzibar and 1 other country between 6 Mar 2010 and 21 Mar 2010
"Well organised and just what we wanted.
Actually it was 2 weeks of 5 star treatment in 5 Star locations.

While we were rather concerned that the BA return flight would be cancelled we had to phone your office and tell them we were at risk. In the end all was well.

"Excellent!"

I visited Zanzibar between 20 Feb 2010 and 5 Mar 2010
"A greatly enjoyable trip. A very, very special place and people!

Expert Africa organized this perfectly for us! Thank you! It couldn't have been better.... we wish we could have stayed for longer.

There are so many things to do and see, yet one can have a trully relaxing and laid back time if/when they choose to.

Staying in a variety of places during our 2-week stay at Zanzibar was ideal in terms of seeing and experiencing different parts of the island which can be quite different from one another.

"zanzibar overall feedback on trip"

I visited Zanzibar between 4 Feb 2010 and 14 Feb 2010
"i feel horrible putting fairly satisfactory as it was very satisfactory really, but the fact i spent 2 full nights without a bed adn on each night awake at least 3 hours as there was no fans was maybe insurmountable but the hotels should have contacted expert africa to say there was no electricity and then we couldhave either cancelled or changed to lamu or mombasa for example.

this was my first holiday for 13 years a huge expense involved in leaving 4 young children with full time care at home as well etc and I was pretty irritated about the twin room problems and generator timings. cecilia is very asthmatic, so it was a worry for her too at nights.

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:

expert africa are fantastic, they understand completely africa and what notes and advice gtravellers need. it was blooming brilliant!! and the guide book is fabulous too, you should get a copy in each hotel too out there.

i would ask one thing, that in the back of your notes to tanzania you h ave a copy of the maps of stone town that you can remove and carry about. it saves taking the whole book with you and in my case i had a tiny purse so ended up tearing out the town pages so i cuold refer to them when we got lost. i am sad my book is torn, but no hotels had maps of stone town and i didn't want to take a handbag with a book in it to the festival etc etc.

we never handed over any of the vouchers you gave us, nobody asked for them. the wallet you sent was also very useful, many thanks.

i hope we can sort out the 2 nights i had to spend on the push up bed and barazzas. i feel the hotels should give me my money back in full for these nights. It is unforgiveable and I am not a student traveller. I also think there should have been something from all 3 hotels to compensate for the lack of fans during the night. A free bottle of wine or soemthing would have taken care of this at each hotel, especially since they had obviously had loads of cancellations and in need of customers, instead of feeling we had been `done' . the goodwill gesture was missing.

i wonder did expert africa know there was no electricity on Zanzibar and it was all generator run, for hours at a time?

i will recommend claire and expert africa to anyone i can. many many thanks." Read full review: 10 nights in Africa; 6 on a Zanzibar holiday

"Very well put together itinery and we were impressed by the precise puntuality of those meeting us and delivering us at various places.

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:

We found out latterly that it is possible to go onto BA website just before 24hours before take off and purchase (if there is room) greatly reduced upgrades to Premium Class, which we would have like to have been told." Read full review: 15 nights in Africa; 7 on a Tanzania safari

"Well planned section of our overall holiday"

I visited Zanzibar between 11 Dec 2009 and 17 Dec 2009
"This week fitted in very well indeed with our overall plan (which was centred on visit, largely arranged by ourselves, to family in Rwanda after leaving Zanzibar). Eco & Culture Tours service was confined to moving us between airport, Serena and Mbweni.

They performed all this perfectly, except perhaps the last occasion when the planned car was a little late because all the petrol stations were closed by power cuts, so quite understandable. Replacement vehicle arrived very promptly.

No further comments.

We had heard of Expert Africa from someone who had been to Namibia with you, and you obviously knew the area very well; we did not seek any other quotations. In the event it was, for us, a good decision not ot try and squeeze in a short game park visit." Read full review: 6 nights in Africa; 6 on a Zanzibar holiday

"Fascinating friendly Rwanda - sunny Zanziba"

I visited Rwanda and 3 other countries between 23 Jul 2009 and 13 Aug 2009
"Rwanda was brilliant - fascinating, scrupulously clean, would recommend the country to anyone who is bitten by the Africa bug. Communication was in a mixture of English, Swahili and French. It was good to start our trip with a visit to the Kigali genocide memorial. Our driver/guide Jackson was fantastic - and added hugely to our experience of Rwanda, even though he was an Arsenal supporter!

However were we to go again, we would adjust some of the timings. The routine seems to be to go and see primates early in the morning, which leaves the rest of the to explore, and so in many ways we would have been better doing 2 (rather than 3) nights in Nungwe, only one night in Moriah Hill, and possibly add one night (or more) in Gisenyi. (It would have been great to go over the border into Goma.) Volcanoes NP was good, though again one night less would have been fine and we would still have time for three primate expeditions. (We were rather extravagant and saw two diffierent goriila groups, which was great but very expensive!) We were also quite sad a not staying in Kigali again.

We had one medical emergency - our daughter got huge boils on her back, luckily on the night before we were due to return to Kigali, so the following morning we drove to a private hospital in Kigali for treatment. This was relatively efficient - after we had paid some money - but did mean that she missed out on swimming in Zanzibar.

Dar was a lovely surprise for one night - we wished we had stayed an additional night here. Zanzibar was as expected, though Stone Town was more chaotic and smellier than I remember (from 35 and 7 years ago).

The whole trip was very expensive - which of course we knew about beforehand! - but tips etc menat that we spent another 500 US dollars per person duing the three weeks, without being extravagant. For example, tipping of guides was $10 per person per excursion, and sometimes we chose to give trackers etc. tips. This is not a complaint, just for information."
