Tawny Eagle Fly-in Safari

Explore Laikipia and the Maasai Mara ecosystem with stays in the Ol Pejeta and Naboisho conservancies. Two smart yet authentically rustic bush camps provide a traditional safari experience, offering a high standard of guiding and excellent level of care.

Tawny Eagle Fly-in Safari: Summary

Tawny Eagle Safari in a nutshell

This immersive fly-in safari features two smartly rustic bushcamps within Laikipia and the private Naboisho Conservancy.

Beginning at the homely and informal Ol Pejeta Bush Camp, the trip starts with a chance to see the world’s last remaining northern white rhino, located in a nearby sanctuary. Populations of both black and white rhino are generally good here, allowing for fair chance of sighting all of the Big 5 when out on exploratory day game drives. Sweetwaters Chimpanzee refuge is also close and well worth a visit, housing more than 40 chimps that live in two troops separated by the Ewaso Nyiro River.

Similarly modest yet lacking nothing comfort, Encounter Mara is a classic tented camp which sits beside a vast open plain. Here, day and night drives are possible as well as guided walking safaris or full-day safaris into the neighbouring Maasai Mara National Reserve. As Naboisho’s wildlife is consistently excellent though, guests might prefer to remain on the conservancy and explore the Mara ecosystem in comparable exclusivity.

Both camps are run by the same experienced safari operator and share high standards as well as a first-class quality of guiding. Whilst the camps are slightly simpler than others in the region, the level of care remains superb and guests are able to enjoy a wonderfully intimate experience from classically authentic bases.

Ol Pejeta Bush Camp

Days 1-4

Ol Pejeta Bush Camp is an informal, rustic-style bush camp on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the northern part of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, in southern Laikipia.

Encounter Mara

Days 4-8

Encounter Mara is a classic tented camp, opened in 2011. It is tucked in a shady forest of orange-leaf croton and Euclea trees on the edge of a vast open plain in the recently created Mara Naboisho Conservancy. There are no permanent structures at the camp and thus never anything but canvas between you and the bush. The camp is comfortable and stylish, however, and certainly aimed at those who appreciate a bit of simple luxury.
