Little Governors' Camp has its own balloon launching site and the pre-dawn take-off is spectacular.
Steppe Eagle Fly-in Safari: In full
For a wildlife holiday combining the remote beauty of the Samburu National Reserve’s unusual, palm-fringed riverine landscape with the intense animal action usually experienced in the Maasai Mara, this 9-night safari has few equals. You start the trip on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro, where elephants, lions, leopards and a host of other species are a constant source of fascination. You then fly southwest, past Kenya’s highlands, to explore the wildlife-rich plains of the Maasai Mara, staying for four nights close to the Mara River in one of the liveliest parts of the reserve.
If you'd like to expererience the natural wonder of the great migration in the Maasai Mara, you should aim to go on this safari in August or September – the best months for witnessing hundreds of thousands of wildebeest roaming the region.
Many travellers add a stay by the Indian Ocean to their safari, including a beach holiday to the Kenya coast in their itinerary. It's a great way to relax after the excitement of wildlife-watching.
Day 8After a last, early-morning game drive, you'll fly to Nairobi (around 1½hrs) and connect on an afternoon flight to the coast if you're continuing your holiday on the beach. Alternatively, if you're flying home today, you can spend the rest of the day in Nairobi with a vehicle and driver at your disposal, enabling you to do some last-minute Nairobi visits or shopping, before you drive to the airport later in the evening.
