"Muchenje Safari Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 3 Apr 2014
"Into Botswana for the second time. We had been in Namibia for 2 weeks and seen only about 20 Elephants (not that they are the only way of assessing a holiday!). As we crossed Ngoma Bridge into Botswana we saw around 100 in the river, and as we left the Botswana border post a procession of Ellies walked cross the road in front of us.

Muchenje occupies a stunning position looking across the river flood plain - I don't think we have ever seen anything so spectacular.

The managers made us feel very welcome and indeed all of the staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was very nice and the food was excellent.

We missed the elephants that had walked past our bungalow in the night (a shame) but we were walked to and fro in darkness by the lodge's security staff. We went on an afternoon game drives then the next day on an all-day boat trip and game drive which was very rewarding - but perhaps too long and a bit uncomfortable. We didn't count them , but we must have seen over 2,000 ellies in a day and a herd of 1,000+ buffaloes. The sheer quantity was staggering when compared to time spent in Namibia. The highlight was probably lunch on the river trip with ellies palying in the water just a few feet away.

Simply Wonderful - wished we had stayed there longer." See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia; 4n in Botswana; 2n in Zimbabwe

"Short but sweet"

2 nights Arrived 7 Dec 2013
"I stayed at Muchenje Safari Lodge for 2 days in early December. This place is gorgeous and even more luxurious than I thought it would be. Air con in the rooms? Vehicles that pull right into the lodge so you don't get wet? Wow.

The guides were excellent and the food was amazing and the service great. The only thing that was not totally perfect was that the husband and wife management team was a little too involved for my liking, spending every moment with us - I would have preferred a little more solitude. But I didn't tell them that, so I can hardly fault them for being super friendly.

Maybe it's because there were only 3 of us at the lodge - almost a private safari! And of course the game viewing in December is a little challenging as the bush is very thick, in this areas in particular. Nonetheless, we still saw a pride of lions and a sable antelope, as well as loads of elephants, hippos, giraffes, etc. And given that we had limited time, they arranged a full day safari, including a river safari for us one day, which was excellent, including lunch in our boat beside a huge herd of elephants." "Great"

3 nights Arrived 1 Nov 2013
"Enjoyed our stay but, as with all parks sometimes frustrating having to stay on roads.

Exciting being chased by two very aggressive lions but we are still here to tell the tale. They did get to within 4 metres as we were speeding away in the Toyota." See all these reviews: 11n in Botswana

"Great views and safari"

2 nights Arrived 11 Oct 2013
"We loved the view from the camp, the safari was outstanding.
Accommodation was very good, food was good but not great.
Our only reservation about Muchenje was the long drive to the Game reserve and back." See all these reviews: 7n in Botswana; 6n in South Africa; 2n in Zimbabwe

"Muchenje Safari Lodge Review"

3 nights Arrived 11 Oct 2013
"This was the perfect place to start our Safari holiday. Location and accommodation were excellent. Food was good and it was very enjoyable sharing meals with staff, guides and owners. This gave the lodge a very personal feeling.

Our guides, Rambo and Synack were delightful, knowledgeable and skilful at conveying information. Highlights for us were seeing large herds of grazing animals, elephants crossing the water, hippos and beautiful birds on the boat trip, the walking safari and 2 good sightings of leopard. We especially enjoyed visiting the nearby village and school at Mabele.

Anyone intending to visit the school and wishing to take materials will find www.packforapurpose.org useful." See all these reviews: 13n in Botswana

"Muchenje Safari Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 30 Sep 2013
"The overall impression is that the management and staff at the Lodge are poor communicators, e.g.
1 They failed to contact us at Victoria Falls to advise pick up time and transfer arrangements.
2 It depended on which member of staff you asked as to the arrangements for activities, in particular starting times
3 We were not told that an early morning walk would take place and we only found out after speaking to other guests. We then had to 'persuade' the management at the lodge that we could join the small group.

The location of the Lodge is over 50km from Kasane where the most interesting activity on the river took place. This is where I seemed to have taken more photographs than anywhere else on the trip. The variety of wildlife was amazing and on the river didn't see other boats with visitors.

The driving related activities all involved long drives, e.g. over 1 1/2 hours each way, from the lodge to Kasane in open vehicles. Warm clothes were certainly needed in the morning and evening. It didn't help that the vehicle brokedown on the way back (gearbox problems), which curtailed our game drive through the park, albeit just after seeing a leopard.

If the river activities at Kasane are included in the itinerary then I would not recommend staying so far from the town. This is also reinforced by the need to return to Kasane on the day of departure for flights. We spent disproportionate periods of time travelling between locations rather than enjoying the environment and wildlife." See all these reviews: 10n in Botswana; 2n in Zimbabwe

"Sadly we only had one night here which limited the game drive opportunities.

The lodge itself located high on a hill was very different than the other locations we had stayed at and was a really nice change. Lots of bird life all around the lodge as well." See all these reviews: 7n in Namibia; 4n in Botswana; 2n in Zambia

"One of our favorites"

3 nights Arrived 16 Sep 2013
"Simply spectacular. Every need was attended to, even air conditioning in the bungalow.

Muchenje strikes just the right balance between simplicity and luxury. The location, at the far end of Chobe, means you aren't competing with a dozen other jeeps for views of the animals. You have the western end practically to yourself." See all these reviews: 8n in Botswana

"Super Muchenje!"

2 nights Arrived 16 Sep 2013
"Would gladly have gone home after two nights at Mazambala Island but Muchenje soon changed all that.
From the moment of arrival this was a wonderful experience and if we go back to Botswana we shall certainly return here
and stay three nights not two!
Excursions were good and guides made every effort to follow guests' interests. Will never forget the carmine bee-eaters on the sandbank!
Liked mealtimes where all sat together including managers and guides. All used Christian names which added to relaxed atmosphere.
Super location, facilities, staff, management, accommodation, atmosphere, activities............" See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia; 2n in Botswana; 2n in Zimbabwe
