Perfect start of our first Namibia trip
This was the perfect place to start our first Namibia experience.
The camp is beautifully situated on a hillside, We stayed in a tent with a fantastic view with sunset, so we could have our own private 'sundowner' for there is even a minibar. The tent is excellently designed, aim to give every possible comfort with a very beautiful bathroom and all practical equipment for our convenience was there. All well maintained, Welcoming, great staff, very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, everyone, not just the guides.
They all keen to make our stay enjoyable - and it really was. We did two guided walks which were greatly enjoyable as our guide was keen to point out and tell all about the rocks, the plants, the trees and all small and bigger creatures we happened to see. And we did see quite a lot of wonderful birds, quadrupedals, like Dik-diks, Kudus etc. The walks are well designed, perfectly well described, clearly marked out and we found it very easy to follow on the two occasions when we chose to go on our own.
Meals. Their muesli is exceptional and coffee is wonderful (these make at least my day) and so is their full English breakfast. The setting for outdoor dinner is wonderful as the view is over the waterhole which one night had a most beautiful little furry visitor; a larger genet. The dinners were well composed and we had the best cooked game ever here . They even had wine from the nearby Kristall Kellerei which was really great as we could not visit the winery.
We had some nice surprises as we drove through the reserve; lots of giraffs, zebras and springbok sightings.
I'm so glad we stayed here for two nights. The scenery is gorgeous: a rugged, rocky bowl strewn with random boulders. It looks like giants tossed them about.
Much as I enjoy safari outings the lack of exercise can be wearing. Erongo Wilderness Lodge has a number of walks leading from the camp. We did the Sundowner and Baboon walks. Both were of easy to moderate difficulty and had great views at the top.
I also went to Paula's Cave. Saw lots of birds and some animals (baboons, zebra, dikdik) on the drive. The art itself is quite interesting.
The birding was very good with lots of noisy lovebirds flitting about and a number of endemics (Monteiro's hornbill, rock runner, etc). Casually sitting on my deck with ordinary binoculars and a pocket guide I spotted over 20 species.
Speaking of which the views off the deck are spectacular. Absolutely loved the design of this place. Tents were nestled into the rocks and angled away from each other to enhance privacy.
The food was very good and the service friendlier than usual. Walked with Clausus (not entirely sure about his name, he's from the Caprivi area) and he was fun to spend time with.
The pool was a little murky, but they had a severe water shortage. So that's quite understandable.
This was the best lodge we stayed in. The manager and staff were very helpful and friendly. The trekking and guided walks were good with knowledgeable guides.
One caveat: beware the glasses of wine they serve; they are extremely liberal and oil large glasses to the brim.l
We enjoyed our stay here and particularly the early morning walk.
I would recommend 1 night.
Unique stay in middle of Erongo mountains
We were very positively surprised by Erongo Wilderness Lodge and were happy we decided to stay two nights here.
Very nice facilities with excellent breakfast and overall felt very personal and homey. The walks in the nature are also very nice and give a great view over the area.
Very warm reception as a returning couple for or 3 day stay this time. Great place to relax and just soak up the scenery.
Not the most prolific place for animals apart from baboons but excellent for bird watching and nature walks. Very helpful staff and first class food.
Maureen enjoyed the birthday cake and singing greeting and my 'HOT TODDY' after getting a chill from a rain soaking at our previous lodge. Many thanks to Elaine the Manageress. Sorry to move on from this place.

Erongo - hidden among the boulders
This is a pretty amazing camp built into the boulders and practically hidden from view as your drive up to it. Really comfortable and attractive rooms, including an open air bathroom integrated into boulders -- one whole wall was a rock face. The common area was perched atop a boulder with great views, and nice dining areas. If you are a birder you could sit on the observation deck all day watching a variety of colorful and interesting birds come and go. The service was attentive and very, very friendly.
This camp also has several well-blazed hiking trails among the boulders. You can go on a guided walk or on your own. We did both. Our guide, Manuel, was excellent -- nice and well informed about the various flora and fauna. Highly recommend taking advantage of both options.
The nearby town of Omaruru aspires toward the artistic and has engaging ambience - worth a trip and a beer.
For us almost a home from home!
Have said all I can in praise of Erongo in the past, they get it so right tent and furnishings well thought out always what you want.
Excellent food and wine. Manager always around mixing with guests walks well led by knowledgable guide.
Terrific for birding and walks. Good stop.
Lovely situation. Our guided walk to see sunset was excellent, with an excellent guide. I think he was the best one as the next morning the guide who was telling us about the birds was not as well informed.
Good food, served on lovely terrace. Very friendly new manager. Love birds at 7 am from terrace a particular attraction - also lots of other birds. Only sorry there was no room/ time for a longer stay.
The only negative comment is that the mosiquito nets in our rooms were totally inadequate - did not fit around the bed, leaving a large gap where the nets were meant to overlap and lots of holes. Fortunately it was not mosquito season. If it weren't for this I would rate room excellent.
