Beautiful location

We last visited the lodge in 2002 and we're happy to return. The location is stunning, the tents renewed and the private sitting areas expanded.

Staff were generally friendly and some were exceptionally helpful (special thanks to Simeon and the manager/owner).

We did three activities: the sundowner walk, the nature drive to the cave and the guided dassie trail. Culis was an excellent guide - well informed and thoughtful.

The lodge offered the best breakfasts on our holiday. Evening meals were also good - eaten on a raised platform under the stars. Every morning at 7.00 seed was put out for the birds.

On our first morning I just sat and watched for a couple of hours as over 15 different species descended to feed. There was also good birding in the scrub immediately around the lodge drive and waterhole.

What a treat!

After a week in Etosha, this was a real pleasure.

We have been before, a few years ago, and there is inevitably a bit of comparison to do. It seemed marginally less fresh and kempt (especially in the approaches), but I'm not complaining; it was still a delight. The tented rooms are still lovely, and the restaurant terrace is still well placed to catch the evening breeze. The setting is fantastic. The manager did his rounds and chatted enthusiastically, much appreciated.

The 6 o'clock morning walk was a great pleasure and informative, well pitched in terms of exercise . You won't see too much four legged animal life, but there are birds, insects, plants and flowers to learn about.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

A lovely lodge - lovely to eat dinner outside. We enjoyed the walks - did one on our own and one guided.

With hindsight we should have stayed here two nights (rather than Immanuel Wilderness Lodge) and driven straight to Windhoek airport.
Good food.

Hidden treasure

On arrival at the site it seems completely impossible that there are a lodge and number of tents hidden away behind the rocks facing you.

Whoever thought of it had great foresight as the views from the lodge and the accommodation are wonderful.

The tent itself was spacious, had a large covered deck with comfortable settee and then on a higher level there were a couple of deck chairs as well.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

Our last night was at Erongo and we wished it could have been for another night. The scenery here is quite different and stunning with the huge rocky outcrops. Our tent was lovely and really airy. We took a self guided walk in the afternoon; there are several to choose from at different levels of difficulty and they are well marked. It was great to do some walking after a lot of sitting. In the evening we took the trip to Paula's Cave to see the rock painting and also to drive around some of the rock scenery. The food was very good here and there is a relaxed atmosphere, so it would have been lovely to stay a bit longer.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

Fantastic food and we enjoyed the guided walks. Good scenery but not a lot in the way of wildlife, though we did see warthogs at the water hole and lots of birds just by the restaurant.

Sundowner trip to the cave paintings was over priced.

Glamping amongst the rocks

Highlights Watching birds feeding just outside restaurant, Warthogs bathing in waterhole, seeing busman cave paintings, walks in hills, sunsets from our deck,
Watchingdaddies and hornbills.

Three nights would probably have been enough.

The lodge got quite crowded on the last couple of days, and there weren’t enough shady sun beds for relaxing by the pool - It was very hot!

Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

We have visited Erongo on 2 previous occasion and always enjoy this lodge. We opted to leave our car at the bottom of the hill and get transferred up to the lodge with our luggage. What we particularly like about Erongo is the amazing scenery and the fact that you can go on guided or self walks. The guides were very knowledgable and friendly and we took advantage of a sundowner walk and 2 early morning walks whilst there. We also did a self guided walk which was well signposted.

The Rock Dassies are prevalant in the area. We enjoyed watching them climb trees to feed on the leaves, very entertaining. You can see many bird species here particularly from the main lodge where water is provided.

A very comfortable lodge, good food and friendly staff, as well as the chance to get some exercise makes this a good place to spend a couple of days going to or from Etosha.
