"A pleasant, secluded stop over"

1 night Arrived 8 Sep 2018
"The lodge does not have the wonderful views at the Desert Homestead Outpost and Ugab Terrace lodges but is within the attractive Erongo mountain range, secluded and quiet.

Once again the staff were welcoming and helpful and the room decorations were an artistic treat. We enjoyed the pool though it was early season and somewhat bracing.

We thought the evening meal a little basic and there was no guide available for the walk we had hoped to make though other activities were still on offer. We saw monkeys and an ostrich from our veranda." See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia

"Beautiful setting"

1 night Arrived 24 Sep 2017
"The Lodge is in a beautiful setting on the edge of the Erongo mountain range. The late afternoon colours were stunning.

We took a short walk out & saw lots of birds. There appear to be many more interesting walks available if time permits.

Rooms are nice & we had lovely views toward the mountains.

Check in was fine & we were welcomed by a lovely lady, who also served us the following morning at breakfast.

Our evening & dinner, was completely marred by one particular member of staff who was, at best, surly & very rude & as we were staying only one night this coloured our view overall, sadly." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Lodge & camp underwhelming"

2 nights Arrived 2 Sep 2017
"We had the same guide at the lodge & camp . He was adequate but did not convey much enthusiasm . The lodge was comfortable but did not seem to fit well into the environment. It was devoid of reference books which would have made identification of the many birds we saw much easier.

The camp was basic with outdoor showers & a rather uncomfortable dining/ lounge area. The new camp under construction is reported to be on hold with some equipment now being removed for use elsewhere.

Hohenstein overall was rather disappointing.

The road directions need attention." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia; 5n in Botswana

"OK place to stay as a stopover"

1 night Arrived 30 Sep 2016
"OK place to stay in a beautiful location beind the Hohenstein mountain which looked fabulous in the eveiung sun. Rooms are clean and fairly basic. Meals were good.

It is quite a long drive out of Usakos and off the main route.

We took an evening game drive where the guide was excellent and knowledgeable. However we only saw a few animals in the distance. The sundown stop wasn't great (next to a fence where we couldn't see the dun go down) and we weren't taken to the rock art." See all these reviews: 18n in Namibia

"Hohenstein Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 31 May 2008
"Now under overall direction by Ulf, owner of Luderitz hotel. Newly installed manager and wif, a delightful couple. Promise of improvement.

Good overnight stop for people going north or returning from North. Not ideal for longer stay ... pretty hot in midday and nowhere cool to sit , and mountain rather too far to walk to and climb. I think Expert Africa should have discouraged us from staying two nights (we left after one night).

Night safari was very enjoyable, especially the rock art on massive boulders and potent sundowner.

However ride was long, road bad, and landrover emitted strong petrol fumes. The Namibian tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable." See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia
