"Okay stay in a city hotel"

2 nights Arrived 2 Oct 2019
"The Avani was a high-rise conference hotel in the centre of Windhoek. For self-drivers, the multi-storey car park entrance was at the back of the hotel, not the front, and had reserved parking for Avani guests on an upper floor (was it the 4th?) with a bridge directly into the hotel. These points would have been useful to know beforehand!

The rooftop bar was pleasant but very busy (Wednesday evening) and they couldn't offer us a table for an evening meal so we ate in the ground floor cafe. Since I was ill the following day - perhaps a reaction to the malaria tablets I was taking - I didn't see anything of Windhoek, but the rest of our party did explore some of the sights, although the zoological gardens weren't well maintained (perhaps due to the current drought) and the Alte Feste - the old German fort - was closed until further notice.

Breakfast service wasn't particularly friendly or efficient, with an unsmiling greeter demanding room numbers and food spilled on the floor by the chefs, however the location of the hotel was convenient for sightseeing, and as a stepping off point for the airport it was a good choice." "Great location in centre of town, friendly staff and they even helped to fix the the 4*4 we had broken on the drive up. Only had breakfast at the hotel as we went to Joe's Beer House for the evening so cannot comment on the food really." See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia

"Avani Windhoek Hotel review"

1 night Arrived 4 Sep 2018
"The hotel and surroundings are having some renovation work carried out which was a little disruptive. Although efforts had been made to work around this disruption signage could have been better about revised arrangements (like how to get to the parking garage or access a working elevator). Staff were efficient and friendly enough and breakfast was good.

Check in and check out we're both well managed." See all these reviews: 8n in Namibia; 3n in Botswana

"Kalahari Sands Hotel review"

1 night Arrived 7 Sep 2008
"This is a hotel in Africa trying to be a big posh all serves european or american hotel which sort of worked the bits that didn't gave you some interesting insight into trying to operate such a concept in Africa.

We slept well and had quick reasonable room service.

Only negative is that they had alot of staff around obviously with wage structures that required them to almost beg for tips." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia
