Aero Club of East Africa review

Aero Club was a great recommendation and although I arrived there very late (11ish) they didn’t fuss, showed me to my room and didn’t have me hanging around doing lots of paperwork to check in.

I didn’t have breakfast the next morning, just coffee, but they were helpful and had pre-organised a driver to take me to the Safarilink departure "terminal" and it was reassuring to know that I didn’t have to worry about Nairobi traffic to get to my internal flight (every other person, guest etc I spoke to over the 3 days and overheard at various airports mentioned how bad the traffic is, how people miss flights because of it)

Aero Club of East Africa review

Aero Club is basic accomodation with a good bar and bar food in a club. It is not a luxury location but it does not pretend to be.

The rooms are not sound-proof and the linen could use an upgrade but everything was clean and tidy.

It's location within the boundary of Wilson Airport means it is a good stop to make early morning flights without having to worry about the horrendous Nairobi traffic jams. The front desk organised a taxi to pick us up early in the morning for the 5 minute drive to the terminal.

The staff at the front desk and in the bar and were friendly and efficient.

Aero Club of East Africa

Aero Club's convenient location makes it a great place for a rest either before or after your flight from Wilson or NBO. The rooms are basic but comfortable and the staff is friendly.

The entire facility felt safe and secure. Breakfast at the restaurant was good and entertaining as we watched planes take off and land at the nearby airstrip. I would recommend a stopover at Aero Club, especially to aviation enthusiasts.

Location Location Location

Aero Club of East Africa was a quick 8 hr stopover for us. Hot showers, a warm bed, and location. The towels may have been a bit scratchy, but this hotel/motel served our need of a convenient and affordable stay close to Wilson Airport for late arrival and an early morning transfer.

It could not have been more convenient to Wilson Airport, with less than 2 minute drive. We easily could have walked, but with luggage and two kids it was nice to have a car take us the short distance. On arrival, staff was expecting us, and we were promptly checked in and escorted to our room. There appeared to be a lively night scene in the lobby bar with a decent size crowd and music playing. The rooms were unaffected by the noise and we slept soundly.

We sat outside on the patio lounge for breakfast and watched the planes from Wilson take off and land, and the kids played on the outside play set.

We would use them again if we needed to.

Aero Club of East Africa review

Fantastic start to our 2 week family holiday. Flew with BA so arrived late in the evening.
We had stepped back in time - rooms (new wing) were large, clean. Bathrooms functioned with adequate hot water.
The bar served cold beers and stories from pilots and NGO workers. Staff were more than helpful.
Breakfast was a traditional English fry up and had a lovely view of planes landing and taking off.
This HAS to be the place for you to stay if you have an early morning flight from Wilson - it saves you hours being stuck in traffic.
If you are looking for 5* this is not for you - but if you want to know how Africa felt in the 1950's this is the place to stay.
We had no worries about security as the Aero Club is set within the Wilson Airport security fencing.

Aero Club of East Africa review

While close and convenient to the Wilson airport, the hotel was average at best.

Arriving late in the evening, the security was questionable as the security guard seemed to be dozing on the front porch of the main office.

Although I had requested that a cold plate be prepared for our late arrival, nothing was there for us and no one seemed to know anything about it.

Expert Africa comments

We were concerned to read these comments and the Aero Club have responded to say they are very sorry if these travellers experienced a sub-standard stay. They had recently done a "soft refurbishment" before they arrived and nothing was reported amiss about their room at the time. The Aero Club immediately addressed the issue of their security guard dozing and have apologised for that lapse. It's worth bearing in mind that the fenced Aero Club compound is itself within the secure perimeter fence of Wilson Airport. We have heard back from the Creative Kitchen (the Aero Club's restaurant) and it transpired that unfortunately these travellers requested their cold plate for the wrong date. The late meal was confirmed by email, but for the day after their stay.

Aero Club of East Africa

Very nice to arrive after a long flight from London and the hassle of getting through Nairobi airport to have a plate of food (scots egg, meat pie and salad) waiting for me even though the bar was closed.

Comfortable for an overnight stay though the bathroom was a bit tired and very handy for the flight up to Nanyuki the next morning.

Friendly staff and free wifi in the club area

Aero Club of East Africa review

Aero Club was a nice place to stay after arriving into Nairobi in the late evening.

Clean and comfortable rooms and a fun bar to grab a drink in before bed. Perfectly safe for a solo traveler. Very much recommend especially if catching an early flight out of Wilson Airport to begin your fly in safari.

Brief stay at Aero Club

Room and facilities were good. The staff were really helpful, breakfast was great and the atmosphere was an unpretentious throw back to pre-independence times
