Eka Hotel review

clean, quiet, very nice staff. seemed convenient . room was well maintained. our experience was small ; we got in late at night, discovered that chips means french fries (which lead to a confusing but delicious plate of masala chips), went to bed, had breakfast (quite nice buffet) and left. exactly what it was supposed to be.

Eka Hotel review

Only a very brief one night stopover but everything was fine.

Pick up by Southern Cross was a little earlier than necessary.

Eka Hotel - excellent city hotel

I was very impressed with the Eka hotel and thought it was a very nice, smart, modern hotel - exactly as one might find in popular chain hotels in Europe.
There was tight security in place as one might expect - the hotel is gated and your bags go through an airport style scanner at the hotel entrance. The process is all done in the most friendly and non-intimidating way possible.
Our taxi-driver was given a pass to enter the hotel after he had been checked, and also a pass to leave the hotel.
Very thorough - I felt quite safe - except I was on the ground floor and the window was open when I arrived. :)
The room was spotless and nicely furnished. The bathroom was very modern and attractive .
There was a kettle with tea and coffee sachets available and a hairdryer.
We arrived late in the evening so did not use the bar but it looked very nice.
All the staff were lovely and I thoroughly recommend the Eka hotel as a convenient and enjoyable short-stay accomodation.
Breakfast was excellent - a buffet arrangement for all the usual juices, cereals, fruits, pastries and hot items are available at the counter under silver salvers - sausage, potatoes, mushrooms, beans, hash browns
Eggs, bacon and omelettes are cooked to order at the counter.
Tea and coffee is ordered via your waiter.
There is a toaster ( one of those small conveyor belt types) available so your toast is lovely and hot .
The fresh fruit selection was very good.
BTW - the large plates eluded me for a while in my slightly jet-lagged state - but you can find them in a round plate warmer to the right of the toaster. ( Bread was kept in a covered basket nearby)

Close to airport, clean and convenient.

Perfect for job in hand, that is overnight stay after long haul flight, clean, modern and attentive staff.
Not however somewhere we would stay for longer as too in personnel and without soul.

A great overnight before starting the safari

This was a very nice hotel for us to spend a short night before heading out to the bush in the morning.

It is conveniently located, the room was beautiful and comfortable and quiet. Staff were friendly and helpful with excellent English.

poor value for $300/nite

There must be a better value hotel near the airport.

Expert Africa comments

We are very sorry that Mr and Mrs M felt the Eka Hotel was poor value. The hotel costs $133 per person per night sharing from Sunday to Thursday and $113 per person per night sharing on Friday and Saturday, for bed and breakfast. High as these prices may seem, they are relatively modest for Nairobi.

The Eka and its more expensive neighbour, the Ole-Sereni, are the closest hotels we use to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport; it's 12km away. (The closest “airport hotel", the Panari, is 11km from JKIA, but not in our programme as we don’t feel it offers a high enough standard for the cost).

Our other low-cost options are either much more modest (such as the convenient but simple Aero Club at Wilson Airport), or much further away (for example the very pleasant Macushla House, in Langata). So we're sorry that the Eka felt like poor value - but despite this, we are confident that we are currently offering the best-value options for overnight stays relatively close to Nairobi International airport.

Eka Hotel review

We can't fully review the Eka Hotel as our stay there was so brief - from 11 pm to 5 am the next morning.

What little we saw was great. Close to the international airport. Competent and courteous staff. Nice quiet room. We even managed to grab some breakfast from the buffet as they were setting it up before 5 am.
