Large modern lodge

We had been warned that this was a large lodge which could be filled with groups but were pleasantly surprised. It was busy but seemed large enough to cope. Some rooms were around the main pool , others (where we were) were a little further away and overlooked a (now dry) waterhole. 2 pools - but slightly too cool for us to swim ! The room was spacious tho lacked tables to put stuff & easy chairs !

The food, tho the usual buffet, was good and nicely labelled so we knew what we were eating ! On the 2nd night we were slightly unwell so didn't want the full buffet - the staff were kind to serve us a large dish of piping hot soup instead.

Good activities on offer - we didn't do the sunrise or sunset safaris but chose the dune walk. Shimi our guide was full of information - really good. We did walk for about an hour in the desert & learnt a lot about the different plants. The rest of the 4 hours was spent driving around - we saw many animals (a HUGE herd of galloping oryx) & many birds - excellent !

Nice location in the desert

The Kalahari Anib lodge was our first campsite on our way to the southern part of Namibia.

The location of the lodge and campsite was very nice. It is situated only a few kilometres from the main road, but the environment was totally different. The campsite was decent (not the best we've had), they are situated a short walk from the main buildings and from one another.

We joined the dinner buffet, which was excellent.

Good stop on way down South

Exceeded expectations as a place to stop heading down to the Rish River canyon area. ooms were very clean and comfortable and staff were attentive. Meals were also good. There is a nice pool area to sit around. It is a large resort so not much character. It is a bit further off the main B1 south than some other accomodation in the Mariental area.

The game drive into the Kalahari had a lot of people on the vehicle and the guide wasn't very attentive to photographers. And then the vehicles all went to the same location for the sundowner drinks so there were too many people present and we drove pretty much in convoy to the location.

Love this place! Pure luxury. We wished we could have stayed longer. We arrived after dark and only had that one night.

Staff in the restaurant were amazing and the food was delicious!

Great start to our Namibia trip

We stayed here for one night after travelling in Kgalagadi Park. Rooms are very nice and spacious. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

We arrived mid afternoon and they cheerfully provided us with lunch even though the lunch service time was over. Dinner was a surprisingly good buffet and the staff sang and danced towards the end of the meal. It was a fun evening. The hotel is quite large and there were some tour groups but they could easily handle the food for everyone.

Our only criticism was of the bar lounge area. Although it's large and spacious, there were not enough comfy chairs. We had to perch on uncomfortable backless stools.

We did not have time to go on a drive or walk but the activities here look very interesting.

Kalahari Anib Lodge review

Butlins in the Bush. Avoid if possible. Ugh Never again, unless as a punishment posting.

Staff there could not give a tuppeny damn about guests. Only reason we stayed there was to cut driving time to the airport. Should have driven on.

Expert Africa comments

Kalahari Anib Lodge was very concerned to receive these travellers feedback and immediately got in touch with us to find out what had happened.

These travellers explained that the main problems stemmed from a large group staying at the same time, whose needs appeared to override their own.

The Kalahari Anib team have offered their unreserved apologies. The issues have been discussed with the lodge managers and staff, who are now even more mindful of the need to make a conscious effort to be more sensitive towards the needs of individual travellers, especially when there are large groups in the lodge.

Kalahari Anib Lodge

Lovely lodge on the edge of the Kalahari. Very peaceful.

Although they don't have any of the big cats here there is still a lot to see. There were a series of walks you could do alone that were easy and fun. There was lots to see, especially birdlife and it was nice to be able to wander about freely.

The chalet was very clean and comfortable and there was a lovely swimming pool. It was also very pleasant to sit out next to the fire at night watching the stars. The staff were very friendly and helpful and kept us going with a good supply of logs for the fire. Meals were lovely, the bar very good value and a very good selection at breakfast.

A very relaxing place to stay.

Kalahari Anib Lodge review

The room was good with lovely hot shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only thing that spoilt our stay was the insistence that everyone had to eat at the same time. The hotel is so far from everywhere that it is necessary to eat dinner there. However, the kitchen was clearly struggling to serve over 60 meals simultaneously on our first night. On the second night it was worse as there were even more residents. It was extremely cold in the dining room (early June) and a long wait between courses. On the second night we gave up before we reached dessert. We very fortunate in being close to the kitchen so our meals were reasonably warm.
Both game drives (sunset and sunrise) were very good with lots of information being conveyed in a relaxed manner.
