Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch review

Great view of the dunes and wildlife from the boma, and boma very comfortable. However not a feeling of 'immersed in nature' as guide book states: peacock very noisy; donkey in the bar; 4-wheeler and horse noises/smells make if feel more like a farm. Restaurant staff not well-trained nor particularly friendly. No automatic porter service; needed to be requested.

strongly recommend the northern route to lodge if coming from Windhoek: this is marked on the brown highway signs, it gives a great view of the dunes, and best examples of social weaver bird nests we saw in Namibia.

Oryx for supper was badly overcooked though asked for rare (also over spiced). No complimentary wine as listed in guide book.

It rained!

Animals not quite as wild as in previous locations, supplementary feeding taking place.

A bit concerned about the number of dead animals we saw.

Our game drive was in pouring rain - in the Kalahari desert!

Night Drive at Bagatelle was amazing

We had great game drives at Bagatelle. We saw all the wildlife we had hoped to see and on the night drive we saw 5 aardvarks!!

Also lots of other unusual wildlife such as spring hares, aardwolf, bat-eared fox and zorillas.

Wish we could have stayed longer

We stayed here just one night which just wasn’t enough, this is a lovely hotel and has so much wildlife close by including the troupe of meerkats who live there. Views were incredible and the game drive was good with an opportunity to get out of the vehicle close to a group of giraffes. The cheetah reserve seemed well run and the dedication of the staff was obvious.

Bagatelle

Loved the upgrade to the Honeymoon lodge.

Once again, some of the activities felt contrived. Maybe we have had a lot of very good experiences and this was not in the top tier.

Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch review

The lodge was conveniently located to break the journey from Windhoek to the Fish River Canyon. Check in was different as the staff were arguing in front of us.
The room was excellent with a great view across the desert. Only problem was for some reason our dune room 4 had not had its path completed which meant our shoes and socks were continually covered in red sand.

We took the combo activity that consisted of a game drive which the guide worked hard to make enjoyable even with limited animals. This was followed by the cheetah feeding which we thought would be zoo like but was actually circus like as the keeper hand fed them. Good to see the cheetah before and after. Very full jeeps to see the sunset.

The food was good once you picked the best from the buffet arrangements for the main course.

Pool area was pleasant though water was again very cold.

Stopover en route to fish River Canyon

Bagatelle is typical of many Namibian lodges - good location (a bit of a drive from the main road), well appointed room with a view, warm welcome, a sundowner drive, a couple of activities, in their case cheetah feeding and a nature drive, and a nice dinner and breakfast.

The stand out element of the typical lodge 'package' was the food - some of the best we had in Namibia.
