"Vince and Annette in Africa-# 2."

I visited Botswana and 3 other countries between 20 Dec 2011 and 14 Jan 2012
"I think overall we liked Tanzania and Zanzibar better than Botswana and the Seychelles. However, it is like comparing apples to oranges. We have been fortunate in that we have been to Africa before and it is hard not to compare trips. Definitely flying from camp to camp is the way to go.

I think we must have just lucked our with our 1 and only guide in Tanzania, because we just loved him and we were with him for 10 days. If only we could have had ALL of the staff @ Lebala with us for the entire trip. Unfortunately that makes such a big difference, the people you share your time with.

As far as the safari/animal encounters it was great. In Botswana you see far less numbers of animals, but you are able to get much closer and with much fewer fellow tourists around. The part of the trip that we both liked the least was the Seychelles. To many transfers and to many quick overnight stays. The flights times did not make anything easy. We would get in to late the 1st night and then have to leave at the crack of dawn the following morning, missing meals, etc. Or we would get in too early to check in and would have to hang out in the common area for hours until our room was ready. Conveniently breakfast was always over and it wasn't time for lunch. I don't eat much @ 6 am while heading out the door for yet another shuttle/ferry or plane trip.

I know that Air Seychelles REALLY messed up our itinerary, and I think it would have been much better before all the changes. It certainly is beautiful there." Read full review: 25 nights in Africa; 10 on a Botswana safari

"Seychelles the islands of rain."

I visited Seychelles between 30 Sep 2011 and 9 Oct 2011
"The poor weather was a problem... rain every day and three days constant rain.

On arrival we were asked to exchange our Expert Africa vouchers for Mason vouchers. Checking these after an overnight flight was difficult but Their vouchers were incorrect. It was a considerable problem to find the first hotel voucher from Mason's was for bed and breakfast and they were not able to sort this out untill after the weekend. it caused considerable problem with the hotel.

Though there was a Masons representative at each point of travel their main interest was to collect vouchers. They came across as complacent and at times rude. Having a voucher for a transfer of two hundred yards from the jetty to hotel in la Digue underlied the farce of it all.

The transfer from Praslin airport to the hotel could have been ten minutes. We were made to wait some forty five minutes and then the bus did a tour of the island dropping off different guests at different hotels.

There was no one to meet us on arrival at mahe. It was in the middle of a storm and the jetty has no shelter. Cases are just stacked up to get soaked in the rain. It was more like local bus travel in Africa.

Overall we felt the Seychelles was an over rated destination.... one or two fabulous beaches but little more. We felt it was inappropriately expensive. Most local people were not friendly. Indeed it was a revelation that workers from Mauritius or Nepal were the most helpful and welcoming.

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:

I went on the visit Uganda after Mahe. You need to seriously consider expanding their. The people are realy welcoming, facilites well above average. The scenery is stunning and the game has very substantialy recovered." Read full review: 9 nights in Africa; 3 on a Seychelles holiday

I visited Seychelles between 24 Jul 2011 and 4 Aug 2011
"Overall we really enjoyed our trip. It was a great experience and the kids (15 & 17) loved the hotels, beaches and most of the food. We knew the weather would not be great in July / August but the clouds were not a problem in the heat. Only 2 of the 10 days were dull.

The Seychelles people are friendly but don't expect anything to happen in a hurry. The agent "Mason's" seems to run the Seychelles and the itineries but they are very efficient and always around if you need anything. Not keen on the early filght home but the hotel Constance Ephelia started breakfast at 4.30 a.m." Read full review: 11 nights in Africa; 3 on a Seychelles holiday

"We love the Seychelles!"

I visited Seychelles between 3 Jul 2011 and 14 Jul 2011
"Thank you for a wonderful trip! Apart from the flights, every aspect of the trip was excellent. In particular, it was very well organised, with all our transfers going without a hitch.

The Seychelles are a beautiful part of the world, and we can't think of a better place to have spent our honeymoon.

Keep up the excellent work!" Read full review: 11 nights in Africa; 6 on a Seychelles holiday

"Overall, a lovely holiday."

I visited Seychelles between 8 Apr 2011 and 18 Apr 2011
"The above rating would have been Very Satisfactory had it not been for the poor performance of Air Seychelles. Expert Africa (Lucy) was very helpful and efficient and the organisation of our trip was excellent.

I would not, however, recommend the Hotel l'Ocean. For your information, one of the other tour operators from whom we also secured a quote and with whom we had some discussion, did not recommend this hotel and suggested as alternatives Patatran Village and Le Domaine which were only marginally more expensive.

The advice on the choice of Islands and the duration of stay on each one was excellent." Read full review: 10 nights in Africa; 3 on a Seychelles holiday

"A fantastic destination"

I visited Seychelles between 3 Apr 2011 and 14 Apr 2011
"As mentioned previously, some requests to Mason's Travel didn't get implimented - their internal communication leaves a lot to be desired.

The Seychelles are a dream destination, although the romantic this or the romantic that does get a wee bit overpowering at times.

There are some visitors who go for the exceptional birds and other wildlife, as well as the snorkelling etc. and the Seychelles fully lived up to those expectations.

The suggestions made by Lucy Copson on choice of island to visit and where to stay were spot on." Read full review: 11 nights in Africa; 10 on a Seychelles holiday

I visited Seychelles between 23 Jul 2010 and 8 Aug 2010
"We were very lucky as it was a fantastic holiday but had we taken other options it would have been less so. Praslin was perfect for a beach holiday and Anse Volbert absolutely ideal. Beware advice to stay in the "best" beaches like Anse Lazio -this just means they'll be lots of people there - better for a day trip.

Beware the government overcharges for everything. Euro 20 per person over 12 to visit the Coco de Mer - ditto to visit the marine park, ditto the ferry to La Digue. As a direct result we skipped the last of these but those we did-including snorkelling at St Pierre was very worthwhile.

Mahe was great as we did it but we couldn't see that any hotel was worth staying at. The famous beach Beau Vallon has too many hotels and is popular with the locals-fine for a day but otherwise go to any good beach in Europe at much less cost. The west coast is gorgeous but the water too rough for anything other than diving into the waves - again not good for a week. The east coast has that dreadful ribbon development all along its length except for the very south-but take sandwiches. You'd feel robbed if you stayed at any hotel for a week.

Bear in mind that Mahe attracts clouds - it won't be sunny all the time.

Bird Island was unbelievable - if we went back we would return there and go to some of the other smaller islands.

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:

The Bradt guide was out of date or misleading we felt.Look at the descriptions of Beau Vallon and Anse Volbert.Wrong way round but thank goodness perhaps.Casuarina Beach burnt down 3 years before and the beach can never have been great.
It failed to explain properly the varying conditions depending on the time of year.

[ Ed: We'd like to make it very clear here that Expert Africa's Chris McIntyre had absolutely nothing to do with the Bradt guide to the Seychelles. Chris is responsible for his own guides to Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and Zanzibar ... but has never had any input into the Seychelles guide. ]" Read full review: 16 nights in Africa; 7 on a Seychelles holiday
