"Big birthday Africa trip 2022"

I visited Zambia and 1 other country between 18 Sep 2022 and 1 Oct 2022
"Despite travel to Zambia and Malawi being a little challenging (there are no direct flights, so lots of flights and transfers) we regarded all this as part of the adventure and worth it for the experiences we had.

Covid regulations weren't a problem, we were met and escorted at every stage of the journey and all the staff were very helpful and friendly. We love the tiny planes between places and the balance of safari and beach chill-out was fantastic, a very special trip.

Claire was always responsive, pro-active and gave us great advice when planning the trip and answering my questions throughout.

As it was our joint birthdays, the special surprises each location laid on were just lovely and so kind.

I honestly believe EA are the very best at Africa holidays, the knowledge and experience of the advisors are exceptional and their advice is accurate." Read full review: 13 nights in Africa; 7 on a Zambia safari

"A wonderful time in Malawi"

I visited Malawi between 28 Sep 2019 and 16 Oct 2019
"We had a wonderful time in Malawi, with all accommodation of a good standard and all travel arrangements working more or less to plan.

We were glad that we had the night in Blantyre on arrival to recover from the journey out (exactly 24 hours door to door), prior to going to the game park.

The drive from Majete to Liwonde was arduous and took nearly 7 hours. This was partly due to misty conditions through the mountains, bridge repairs in Blantyre and the poor quality of the roads, particularly the access road into Liwonde National Park.

The drive from Liwonde to Nkhotakota was extremely arduous and took about 7.5hours. The driver did not seem too well to start with and had to stop for a short while. We fed him some of our packed lunches as the monkeys had apparently pinched his breakfast!. We had a stop in Salima for toilets and refuelling, but there was a delay due to an issue with the driver's office, in sending him through sufficient funds to buy enough petrol. We moved on and had the same issue in Nkhotakota town, where we stopped for nearly an hour while he tried to sort it out. The driver had not been to Tongole Lodge before and had to keep stopping to ask how to get to it. Once in the park, signposting disappeared and we ended up at the sister camp and had to be re-directed. We were concerned when the driver said that he was driving straight back to Blantyre without a break. It might be worth exploring air transfer - the pilot we spoke to said it was possible via Lilongwe. Obviously the cost would be higher but after undertaking the road journey, this could be worth it.

We are not sure why Expert Africa are offering South African Airways via Johannesburg as their preferred route. We found Ethiopian Airlines flights to be extremely good, with modern planes (Airbus A350 and Boeing 787) and excellent crew. The issue about flight changes that we were notified about prior to departure were due to the main runway at Blantyre being closed for several months for re-building. Only small planes can land at Blantyre on their small runway, and so all large planes have to go into Lilongwe and then a shuttle service is run down to Blantyre in small turboprop planes. Ethiopian could have explained this to us when they changed the flights. Our luggage was taken right through to Blantyre and immigration was also done at Blantyre, even though we arrived there on an internal flight.

The only other downside to Ethiopian is the airport at Addis Ababa. although a relatively new terminal, is not to the standard of Johannesburg airport, although is tolerable for a few hours.

Our Business Class flights (for 2 people) cost £4545.24 compared with your quote with SAA of £9841.98 and we were extremely happy with the service.

Thank you so much for organising this trip for us. we had a fantastic experience and really enjoyed our time in Malawi." Read full review: 18 nights in Africa; 16 on a Malawi trip

"Wonderful trip!"

I visited Zambia and 1 other country between 16 Sep 2019 and 2 Oct 2019
"Our whole trip from Livingston to South Luangwa National Park to Likoma island was fantastic and we want to thank Expert Africa and Amanda Bond for helping us plan our trip.

We especially appreciated Amanda‘s feedback and valued her recommendations. We’ve been to Africa many times, but it is extremely valuable to get the perspective of someone who is familiar with areas, such as South Luangwa and Lake Malawi, that we have never been to. We have used expert Africa services before and would not hesitate to use them again. Thanks, Amanda." Read full review: 16 nights in Africa; 12 on a Zambia safari

"Luangwa/ Malawi June 2019"

I visited Zambia and 2 other countries between 26 Jun 2019 and 9 Jul 2019
"Expert Africa delivered everything we had asked for for our holiday. Excellent service, understood what we wanted - remote, few other people and especially few other vehicles but with lots to see. Personal service everywhere we went and we always felt we were valued as people as well as customers.

Remote Africa Safaris were exactly that, at the edge of the South Luangwa - superb places to stay and excellent guides. A walking safari isn't for everyone and you don't get as close to animals as you would in a vehicle, but the whole experience more than makes up for that. We saw lots of animals and birds - large and small and can't thank our guide (Moffit) enough - he really made the holiday.

We loved the eco ethos of both Remote Africa Safaris and Kaya Mawa; home grown food, avoiding plastics were possible, local employment, clear investment in staff training, recycling and solar energy.

A great holiday" Read full review: 13 nights in Africa; 7 on a Zambia safari

"Our June 2019 trip to Zambia and Malawi"

I visited Zambia and 2 other countries between 18 Jun 2019 and 3 Jul 2019
"Fantastic memories - thank you Expert Africa. It’s hard to exaggerate the beauty of Africa.

Beguiling and awesome in equal measure. We loved watching the drama unfold everyday. Someone said, "you feel more alive living with lions”. I would add: "...particularly on a walking safari." Zambia appears to specialise in these and we found the guiding excellent, although thirty metres from a lion is plenty close enough for me.

The canoeing we loved too. A true escape from our provincial life where many of our friends only wish to be close to a crocodile if it were a handbag! I'm determined to get them to go on safari and spend their money more wisely. We are saving up for the next one!

"Another superb trip.."

I visited Malawi between 17 Aug 2018 and 26 Aug 2018
"Malawi is the third trip that we have booked with Expert Africa in the last year following Namibia and Rwanda (incorporating Uganda) and disregarding the issue with the Ulendo flight from Likoma and the miscommunication with Latitude 13, it was another wonderful trip.

Many thanks as always for the organisation and recommendations that have made our trips so memorable and special. We look forward to the preparations for our next one.

Sincerely, Anna & Malcolm

"Malawi is a must"

I visited Malawi and 1 other country between 10 Jul 2018 and 27 Jul 2018
"Great trip. Everything happened as per plan. The only reservation was about the new Robin Pope camp and that needs commencing to the owners.

Otherwise, an amazing experience, and we saw far more wildlife than we were led to expect from the literature.

The country felt safe and friendly and the lack of hordes of visitors made you feel you were experiencing the real Africa." Read full review: 17 nights in Africa; 12 on a Malawi trip
