Fabulous setting right on the banks of the Zambezi. The cottages are lovely with good views, set next to the river and far enough apart to give absolute privacy. The sounds of hippo calling to each other accross the river was wonderful. The highlight of our stay was finding a hippo on the lawn in front of our cottage leisurely chomping the grass until, having caught sight of us, it slunk quietly away and slipped back inot the river with a grunt of "goodbye".
Tongabezi facilities were good with private dinning on a wooden deck with unforgettable views of the river. Staff were friendly and attentive.
Activities were very good and staff were amenable to requests. We went to Victoria Falls twice - it was just mesmerising. We also got to visit the Royal Livingstone Hotel en route and had the opportunity to savout the ameneties there and see the mist rising from the falls accross the river!
We enjoyed Tongabezi.
We would like to just make mention here of the second stage of our trip which was overland from Tongabezi to the border with Botswana. This was another terrific experience. The Zambezi is the border and having had our passports stamped at the border post, we had to carry our luggage to the water's edge and wait for a little steel boat to take us accross the mighty Zambezi. Halfway accross, the boatman stopped the boat and gave us a lecture on the confluence of the Zambezi and Chobe rivers and the countries bordering - meanwhile the little boat bobbed up and down in this vast expanse of water and the huge lorry ferry ploughed passed us. Slightly surreal!
The service at Tongabezi was excellent and our room had real wow factor. Perfect for our Honeymoon. We found Tongabezi a really relaxing place. The food was lovely and the staff arranged for us to have a floating san pan dinner which was really romantic.
There was a large range of activities and we chose to pay for some additional activites. A trip to Livingston Island and a helicopter flight. Although Tongaezi seemed bigger than the other camps we had stayed in staff were very friendly and seemed to take a genuine interest in our stay.
Avery pleasany relaxing stay
A very good idea after 6 days safari. We particularly enjoyed the early morning and evening river cruises. We were the only ones to make the early trip - good for us- but they did miss a beautiful hour or so! They were very mean with the mosquito spray!Read more about the whole trip

This client commented: "My husband and I started our Zambian adventure at Victoria Falls staying at Tongabezi. We had a wonderful first wedding anniversay staying in the Bird House with our wonderful valet Alvin. The Falls were amazing and a trip to Livingstone Island well worth albeit it could be a bit longer. The sunset boat cruises are a must especially for the elephant watching!"
Fantastic luxury and excellent activities
Tongabezi was amazing. The cottages were luxurious and having our own valet was great. The variety of inclusive activities was brilliant and we took full advantage of being on the banks of the Zambezi. It was also very easy to arrnage for extra activities like helicopter ride.
After the slightly less luxurious safari lodges, Tongabezi was very, very relaxing and we thoroughly enjoyed being pampered (dinner outside our cottage, san pan breakfast on the Zambezi and pedicures for both of us!).
And of course Vistoria Falls and swimming in Devils Pool is beyond comparison.
Wonderful finale to a great holiday
A wonderful place to finish one's holiday.
The food, service, and accommodation are first class. Our valet was outstanding. We enjoyed the activities, but this is really a place for the end, not the beginning: the wildlife experience here is pretty limited, and if one had indulged in it here at the start of the trip, one would have wasted time and money since it doesn't compare with South Luangua.
Great visit to the school.
Lodge great as before -
Having stayed at Tongabezi Lodge before the repeat was still a pleasure to experience the spectacular location and luxury.
Service and food perhaps a shade off last time (no fish on dinner choice for example) but still very good. Room service with Butler great and all staff very friendly. Pool not well maintained.
Dog House view could be improved with some with some judicious pruning of trees/bushes. Bathroom only limited surface space to place toilet articles and no real chest of drawers for fold up clothes storage. This could be improved.
For a lodge of this class top management attention to detail would benefit to really keep it excellent
Highlight - Devil's Armchair
Tongabezi was a disappointment but fortunately we had the experience of going to the Livingstone Hotel for lunch and to the Devil's Armchair which was amazing!
The service at Tongabezi was very slow and noone seemed to be in charge. The Manager (Rudi?) greeted us on arrival and when we left and was notable by his absence the rest of the time. The drainage was in poor repair and smelled badly and the food was unexceptional. We enjoyed the trips up the river and the bird life and fishing but would probably not recommend Tongabezi to others.
Mega fab place
Superb place with wonderful people. What an experience to be woken by 20 Hippos at 5.45 each morning snorting and blowing off wind plus singing in their unique style. The Croc outside our window was small and fab to have as a guard dog.
Our valet Nymabe we wanted to bring home with us.
The setting by the side of the river in hut/cottage number 1 was just an amazing experience.
