"Victoria Falls Hotel review"
2 nights Arrived 28 Sep 2013
"We didn't receive any details from Machenji Lodge on pick up details for our departure from Victoria Falls. The evening before I asked the hotel if a message had been received. None had been received. Wilderness Safari's agent had left for the day and were not contactable. The hotel advised that I would need to go to the desk in the morning at 7.30. I was there but no one else arrived and it was gone 8 before I was given any information. This uncertainty was unsettling as our itinerary noted that the pick up was to be from the airport!.Better liaison between the Muchenji / Wilderness Safaris and the hotel should be improved."

"An attraction in itself
This vintage hotel is part of a true Vic Falls experience (if you can afford it). We stayed 3 nights and savored every moment: the convenient location, the view over the bridge, the spray clouds from the falls in the distance, the colonial feel, the service, the food, the pool, and the drinks! It was a perfect place to relax after 3 weeks in the bush ;-) We were in Room 69
The peddlers are harmless. All their uncles carved the big 5 figurines. They are all hungry and feeding a wife and children. Talk to them long enough and you can get a feel for their work ethic. Tourist police escorted us several times between the hotel and the Falls, which was a nice change for a regular chat.
We used Wildlife Safaris (Ilala Lodge and the Rest Camp) for our sundowner cruise. Recommend the long helicopter ride (expensive but it was our only time).
We visited the falls our first afternoon just by accident - so many activities to choose from, we made a simple choice and asked ourselves: "what are we here for?" $US30 each person, each entry - plan on dropping a lot of cash in Vic Falls - We were able to return the morning of our departure because it is so spectacular. No rainbow this time (afternoon has rainbow)
Souvenir tee shirts of your trip at Rest Camp. Ask for Oscar who will come to the camp, take your order preferences, and deliver it to your hotel. Saw a couple at a Botswana border post with their version.
You can walk easily to town from the hotel (especially nice through the rail station and along the rails).
The bar does not sell cigars, so bring your own.
Too bad they haven't designed the bar as a gathering place for travelers." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia; 6n in Botswana; 3n in Zimbabwe

"Colonial style"
3 nights Arrived 7 Jul 2013
"A truly beautiful colonial style hotel including colonial style service, with magnificent outlooks and wonderful settings for both restaurants, and warthog and baboon entertainment on the lawns in front. The location offers views of the bridge, views of the mist from the falls and is an easy 10 min walk to the Victoria Falls Park. Walking into town or to the tourist market is also an easy option. The rooms while due for an update, are still lovely but we did request to move from the area on the first floor above the kitchens extractor fan which was incredibly loud. Just be sure to request quiet rooms!
The many tourist police in place around the area make you feel safe and answer all questions with a smile.
Booking activities in the area beforehand, gives you more time to enjoy your downtime and soak up the ambience." See all these reviews: 9n in Botswana; 3n in Zimbabwe

2 nights Arrived 16 Sep 2012
"It was a bit of a shock on the senses after the last 8 days in the bush, but it was what was needed.
It was comfortable, and excellent for relaxing. Also, it was a short walk to the Falls, which was perfect. We enjoyed our stay, but were pleased we went after our camp experience rather than before like some of the other guests we met in the Camps.
The only thing that wasn't perfect was our pick-up to take us to the airport was late, and we felt that the Wilderness team were not nearly as efficient or friendly as everyone else we met - perhaps that was because they were less involved with our trip." "Perfekt start of a wonderful safari"
2 nights Arrived 30 Jul 2012
"We started our safari to Zimbabwe/Botswana at Victoria Falls Hotel (2 nights) - the perfect place to relax after an exhausting flight from Europe via Johannesburg!
When you enter the hotel you feel like being in the 19th century (with the medal decorated uniformed doorman at the entrance!) and it's a kind of irritating to stay at such a place of luxury in a country like Zimbabwe.
The rooms are good, the food good to excellent (you can choose between 3 restaurants form casual outdoor buffet to luxury gourmet), they have a nice pool and a large garden (with regular visiting of warthogs!) but the best of all is the view: You sit on the terrace or the outside stairs and have an unrestricted view at the Rainbow Bridge and the mist of the falls (the falls you can't see directly). And if you get up not to late (about 06:45) you can observe a spectacular sunrise.
There are a lot of activities you can do around there: from scenic flights over the falls (disturbing: you can hear the helicopters from 08:00 to sunset), bungee jump, boat cruise or whitewater rafting on the Zambezi river, walks with elephants or lions or you just make (what we did!) a nice 10 minute walk from the hotel to the Rainbow Bride and the Victoria Falls National Park and enjoy this miracle of nature by foot!" "Victoria Falls Hotel review"
2 nights Arrived 15 Jul 2012
"We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel has lots of character, the grounds are well-maintained and peaceful, and the staff could not be more accommodating. The rooms are comfortable and in keeping with the character of the hotel. We ate at the Jungle Junction the first night, which is a buffet with a good variety of options and we enjoyed the cultural dancing that takes place every night. We had the 7 course menu at the Livingstone Room the second night - we thought it was excellent value and liked the live music. The location is so convenient, just minutes from the Falls and affording views of the bridge from the terrace. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel."
