"Basecamp Eagle View review"
We had the best guide - Manfred Narrida, who is legendary for his skills in wildlife sighting and is a very informative, friendly guide. We saw absolutely everything (large herds, baby animals, all the big cats including leopard, and a lion kill right in front of us.) we enjoyed night drives and a bush walk in the beautiful Naboisho conservancy.
The downside of this camp is the awful food. We were hungry and dissatisfied the entire time. Even the coffee was bad. There was also an infestation of flies in the dining room, I suppose because of the location but the property should screen in the dining room. The staff is so nice and tries to be accommodating but I wouldn’t return because the meals were so unpleasant.
The rooms were fine except very dark, especially the bathroom." See all these reviews: 10n in Kenya; 3n in Rwanda

The guides are really something, we had two guides, Dickson and Bandi. They were polite, knowledgeable about the animals and were incredible at tracking the locations of each animal. We had the option of 2 driving safaris a day and they always managed to find us something new to see. We saw everything from hippos, to cheetahs, to lions and colourful birds, and even a leopard in a tree with its dinner. Our two guides were great at spotting animals far before we could see them and would point us towards anything interesting. They also had many stories about their experiences with the animals, or little factoids about how much they ate, how they lived, how the herds worked and how best to survive in the wilderness against these animals. If possible, we'd recommend the walking safari, as you get to see the smaller animals/insects, learn about the plants and how they can be used, and have an easy chat with the Maasai.
Sometimes the lack of a concrete time schedule left us a little confused, at the end of each activity our guides asked what time we'd like to do the next activity, which we didn't really know the answer to. We had no idea when the best times to see the animals were. It caused a little confusion and awkwardness occasionally, but in general you do the morning safari is at 6:00 am and the afternoon safari at 4.30pm.
Even though the animals certainly walk amongst you while in the camp, you always feel very safe alongside the trained Maasai warriors placed across the premises. It's pitch black in the night so you'll have an escort back to your tent to keep you safe, and you're provided a walkie-talkie so someone is always available no matter the time. This was a nice comfort as the animal calls over the savanna at night can be a little spooky at times.
You're provided three 3-course meals a day and the staff in reception are really friendly. It being quite a small establishment so you will recognise a fair amount of the staff before long. Our server was Johnson and he was so lovely, always greeting us with a smile and asking us how our day was so far. Food is good, but sometimes 3 course meals 3 times a day are a little much. We found by a few days in we'd either miss the starter or the dessert. Sometimes, we had to wake up very early in order to get to the morning safari on time at a 6-7am start so the tea and coffee available at reception was very welcome.
The reception area itself is open with a beautiful view of the savanna and you can often see the animals from the balcony. At night you get a wonderful view of the stars and the staff setup a fire pit so it's warm as you enjoy the view with a glass of wine.

The tents are large and spaced well apart, adding to the wilderness feel of the camp. You will be escorted to and from your tent after sundown - just as well as we had buffalo and giraffe around ours! The view from the verandah is superb as is the view from the bathroom. There's nothing quite like watching zebra whilst brushing your teeth! There are two showers - one inside and one outside.
Our best game drives here were in the Conservancy with some super sightings of cheetah, elephant, hippos and lots of lions, all at close quarters and with few other vehicles. We had a full day in the Mara Reserve with a great bush breakfast and lunch but the animals were few and far between although we were lucky enough to catch a pair of lions mating which was a real treat.
One point to note is that the camp no longer accepts Mastercard so make sure you have an alternative method of settling your bill or purchasing gifts from the (very) small shop." See all these reviews: 10n in Kenya

It was much appreciated that they offered us an extra tent (A and B), so the kids had a bit of space to spread out, and I had my own tent. So lovely of them, and unexpected.
Amazing game drives with our driver." See all these reviews: 11n in Kenya
"2 sisters on a trip of a lifetime"
What an amazing experience we had on safari. We saw so many animals including baby elephants, baby cheetahs and a 6 month old leopard to name but a few.
We had excellent advice from Olivia at Expert Africa who worked tirelessly with us helping us to find a camp and holiday within our budget. We could not have asked for a better holiday. One observation, however, was that the food we had at the camp was very cosmopolitan and not of a Kenyan influence which seemed a shame. We would have liked to have at least had the option to sample typical Kenyan food but nothing was offered. We were surprised to be offered pasta carbonara and spaghetti Bolognese in the middle of the Mara! Having said that, the food we had was plentiful and tasty.
Our trip through the local village of Talek was most interesting stopping at a local girls boarding school to learn about their project in Talek to keep young teenage girls in education. The local womens' Arts Centre at Basecamp near Talek was certainly worth a visit as well. Our morning out in that area was a great way to spend a few hours in the local area and gave us an insight into how the local people lived.
I cannot think of anything we would have changed on our holiday and our thanks to Olivia for her perseverance in finding us something we could afford!
Well done Expert Africa, your services really are a credit to you." See all these reviews: 3n in Kenya

I have stayed at game lodges many other times, in Kenya,Tanzania and Namibia. Basecamp Eagles View, and my visit surpassed, all the others very good thorough they were.
The individual lodges were excellent with large beds, perfect 'facilities' ( even a hot water bottle!) and a veranda and views to die for; the main reception areas were beautifully presented; the Masai staff were all exceptional in their warmth, concern and efficiency; the food varied and excellent. Above all, and a reason for staying here even had everything else been less than adequate, was the setting overlooking the valley and plains 100 ft or more below us with wandering giraffe, water buck, antelope to inspect with binoculars and a beer in hand.
The game drives were a joy; as much good game as you could wish for and plenty of it; stunning and varied scenery and the exceptional pleasure of rarely seeing another vehicle this despite staying stationary for an hour on two separate occasions, once surrounded by at least fifty grazing elephants and the other by nine lazy lions all a touching distance away, in the setting sunset.( In the Masai Mara you would have been in a vehicle park with that sort of game!)
Steve, my guide and driver was an amiable, knowledgeable and friendly companion dressed always in full Masai outfit. I could not have wished for better. His patience and skill in setting up those two particular game experiences was exceptional. I loved every minute of it but almost the most memorable was the last early morning walk where he collected three more of the staff and the four of them, dressed in red and beads and armed with lethal looking throwing spears, escorted us; we were safe as houses and never at risk, their red outfits enough in themselves to warn away any hungry lion!
I could not recommend too highly this exceptional camp. If your interest also lies in ecological issues, then the camp must be one of the most efficient with recycling everywhere, their power from the sun; indeed it has been short listed for an International Award.
I am grateful for a really memorable visit and shall return!" See all these reviews: 6n in Kenya
