"Terrace Bay review"

1 night Arrived 22 Apr 2010
"Terrace Bay is a government run camp in the middle of nowhere. If you aren't a fisherman then there is little reason to visit here at present.

The manager informed us that they are hoping to renovate the camp next year and add in activities for the new influx of non fishing tourists which will make a big difference.

The staff were excellent and despite the raucous nature our fellow diners, who were all hardcore fisherman, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. I was the only woman there apart from the staff which was a little intimidating.

It was an experience I won't forget and isn't for the faint hearted!" See all these reviews: 22n in Namibia

"Terrace Bay review"

1 night Arrived 31 Oct 2009
"We were pleased we made the effort to get there so that we could see more of the Skeleton Coast.. Our expectations of the accommodation & food weren't high. Sure the cabins were not the same quality as other camps but the location at the end of the road made it worthwhile. The staff had made a good effort with the limited resources.

Perhaps NWR should consider refurbishing and providing two grades of cabin - one for the fishermen and an upgraded one for tourists.

Friendly atmosphere, loved the quotes on the dining room wall." See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia

"Oh what a drive but well worth it!!!!"

1 night Arrived 31 Aug 2009
"What a surprise!!!!! After being warned that the drive would be dreadful and the worst road in Namibia, we actually found it great and one of the better dirt roads that we experienced. A long long drive but we felt it really was worth it. When we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and were informed that we would be the only people staying there that night (apart from some official from Etosha - and we never saw him or his family any way).

The room was dated with 60s furniture but again clean, spacious , with toiletries, towels, fridge & tea making facilities. We had been told the food would be canteen style but the dining room was nice and fresh and people that had stayed there had written comments of their stay on the walls (all excellent and some with little drawings).

The meal was vegetable soup (home made), smoked salmon, 2 hour old Kingclip fish fillet & veg with an apple crumble & custard to die for. The breakfast was excellent and the whole stay was a very good experience. Peace and solitude at this time of year (no fishermen who normally make use of these facilities)." "Terrace Bay review"

1 night Arrived 28 Jul 2008
"The drive up to Terrace Bay was great fun and the road was much better than I had expected. We enjoyed Terrace Bay enormously - the restcamp feels as though it's at the end of the world and the restaurant/bar staff were very friendly. It was simple and unpretentious.

The food was very good, considering the location, far from producers and shops. Like Swakopmund, the place is cold (and windy) in July, but there was no fog and seascapes were beautiful. Quite a tough place for the staff, who must feel very isolated there.

I hope that NWR don't send Terrace Bay upmarket with fancy refurbishment - it is perfect, just as it is. Nothing to see, but that's part of the charm." See all these reviews: 18n in Namibia

"Terrace Bay review"

1 night Arrived 15 Jun 2008
"We loved expolring the Sleleton Coast and Terrace Bay was like this little outpost at the end of the earth!. We thought it was really quaint.

We understand it wouldn't suit everyone and the rooms are tired and old fashioned but still comfortable. We had been warned it wasn't 5 star and it exceeded our expectations. Staff were great." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Terrace Bay review"

1 night Arrived 4 Jan 2008
"This place is like a run down ex army camp complete with tired mess hall all in need of a great deal of TLC. No fridge, power plugs hanging of the wall etc.

It is not worth the very long journey from Swakop to end up in a place like this. As far as our group was concerned it had no redeeming features." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia; 3n in Zambia
