Pleasant Stay

Very short visit, but pleasant.

Food was excellent and the staff very keen to help us with anything we needed.

Southern Sun Dar review

The hotel was ok but a long journey (2 hrs) just to spend a night in a hotel and then go back to the airport the following morning. Is there not a nearer airport hotel?

Also it stank, and I mean stank, of paint. It had just been painted they informed us, but we both had difficulty going to sleep and felt sick when we woke up. Imagine repainting your bedroom and not airing it at all and then trying to go to sleep like that and you will get the picture.

Service was fine

A Short Stay at Southern Sun

Seeing we were only there for about 7 hours and most of that we slept, we arrived at rush hour in Dar and it took us about an hour to get to the hotel, would have liked to have spent longer in Dar to explore

Southern Sun Dar review

We only stayed here for about 8 hours while waiting for a flight from Dar to Nairobi. It was a good place to rest up, have a shower and a beer and something to eat.

The staff were professional and the rooms were comfortable. It's not too far from the airport.

Overnight stay

An oasis in the middle of a very busy and chaotic city.

Good dinner.

Tanzania in the (very) Wet Season

Good morning transfer from airport after a nightmare getting visas!! The hotel was a perfect place to overnight before our onward journey.

In a very tranquil setting yet reasonably close to airport this hotel was staffed by very pleasant and helpful staff.

Our room was good though, perhaps,a little 'tired' but the hotel was undergoing a major makeover so this minor fault is being addressed. The air conditioning had a slight odour but this was also being sorted during the renovations.

We enjoyed a very good meal sitting on the terrace beside the swimming pool

We would definitely use the Southern Sun Dar again.

Southern Sun Dar review

Oh dear, this was a bit of a disaster. They were undertaking major repairs - fair enough, but unfortunately put us in a room in the middle of the renovations which were still going strong at 5pm. It was just banging, more disconcerting was the fact that there was an internal shute for the rubbish which was inside a wall adjacent to our room, so there was some fairly violent rumbling of garbage every couple of minutes. Oh and the room stank - it was musty and awful - no doubt the reason for the renovation.

We zipped over to the Hyatt Regency, had a lovely drink on the roof and then went to a local BBQ restaurant for dinner, so not all was lost.

Greta overnight stop

We were recommended this hotel by Expert Africa but frankly were able to book a room on line ourselves at a very much reduced cost and Liz Wollen was fine about that.
Very warm welcome ,lovely ambiance ,clean and comfortable . There was a nice shop but not open while we were there .We thought we might have to skip breakfast because of an early start but as the very comprehensive and delicious breakfast starts at 4.30 am there was no problem.

It was a Sunday morning when we left and traffic was minimal so it only took 20 minutes to the domestic airport .It would take much longer on a working day.

Overnight stop

Difficult to comment in detail as we were only in the hotel for about 9 hours as an overnight stop.

However the staff were very welcoming with a cold drink, and friendly throughout our visit. The room was comfortable(the bathroom miniature products were very nice).Had a view over Botanical Garden. Breakfast was an interesting & very varied buffet with sweet and savoury options(eggs cooked to order), well presented.

Didn't get an opportunity to use the pool or dining room.

A long way from the airport so had a very early start to get back for our flight-but needed a lot of time due to crazy traffic. Didn't see any hotels any nearer the airport though. Fascinating, "no rules"driving!
