"Beyt al Chai review"

2 nights Arrived 16 Oct 2007
"Beyt was the one place we thought maybe wasn't worth the money. The building was very nice and beautifully restored. The room was not so comfortable. There was no shower - just a tub with hose. Also, there were many mosquitos in the room, particularly around the toilet.

Pretty friendly management but not as warm as the other places we visited." See all these reviews: 8n in Zanzibar; 7n in Tanzania

"Beyt al Chai review"

2 nights Arrived 14 Oct 2007
"We stayed 2 nights at Beyt al Chai. The room was very nice and comfortable. The lounge with the honesty bar was a lovely room and it was nice to sit there for a while in the evening and look at the excellent coffee table books.

We only had breakfast on one day as the second day we had to leave for our return flight home at 5.45 am (but we did get some fruit to take with us) - so it is not relly possible to comment on the food. The restaurant looked nice but we did not eat there in the evening as we would have been lone diners!! (We went across the road to the Serena Inn roof top restaurant for dinner - and that was gorgeous).

We were concerned about the lax security regarding the room key. We were asked to leave our room key at the front desk if we were going out - which usually meant leaving it on the desk with nobody there and a possibility of anyone being able to pick it up (the name of the room was on the key!). When we came back to the hotel after sightseeing on the first day we could not get into our room as the key had been taken by a member of staff to turn the beds down - and he had disappeared. When we returned on the second night the room key had completely disappeared and we had to use the master key!! The waiting for a key was rather annoying." "Traditional Zanzibar ambience with luxury"

2 nights Arrived 29 Jun 2007
"The managers Sylie and Pius are very helpful in providing local recommendations and personal service. Its a great location for sundowners at The Africa House and several good restaurants.

The rooms are simply but well decorated with traditional furniture and fabrics. However, they are showing signs of wear - loose ceiling fans and loo seats, lights and electric sockets not working. Hand towels weren't provided in the bathroom.

Breakfast was good." See all these reviews: 7n in Tanzania; 7n in Zanzibar
