Yellow Baboon Fly-In Safari

Two authentic bushcamps offer access to Ruaha’s remote wildernesses. Explore the heart of the park’s best game-viewing as well as its largely untouched eastern fringes in almost utter isolation. Walking safaris, day and night 4WD drives, fly-camping and superb guiding heighten your immersion in nature.

Yellow Baboon Fly-In Safari: Summary

Yellow Baboon Fly-In Safari in a nutshell

Well known for its dramatic scenery and contrasting landscapes, Ruaha is also Tanzania’s largest national park: one which offers safari-goers a comparatively quieter experience due to its vast size, small handful of camps and subsequent low visitor numbers.

This adventurous fly-in safari offers an in-depth exploration of the park’s rolling hills, large open plains and forests of skeletal baobab trees from two opposingly positioned camps. At these camps, the focus is on an immersion in the surrounding wilderness and a wide range of activities helps achieve this.

The trip begins at Kwihala, an elegantly traditional tented-camp located at the heart of Ruaha’s best game-viewing region. From here it is not uncommon to see elephants browsing along the neighbouring dry river bed or for game to wander through camp. Being one of the few camps where night drives and walking safaris are included in the rate, Kwihala also enables guests to discover the local flora and fauna from a new perspective.

Similarly, Kichaka prioritises walking safaris as a means of exploring the untouched eastern regions of the park. Located in this wildly remote area, the camp enables guests to discover wildlife away from the beaten track and in almost utter isolation. Fly-camping heightens the sense of being ‘lost in nature’ and 4WD game drives are available to aid exploration further afield.

At both Kwihala and Kichaka, the guiding is superb. The teams share an encyclopaedic knowledge of the surrounding bush and this, coupled with their shared enthusiasm, makes for a first-class experience.

Kwihala Camp

Days 1-5

Kwihala is a well-established camp in one of Ruaha National Park’s best wildlife viewing areas. It is a tented camp with a traditional safari feel without scrimping on comfort. Blending beautifully with the surrounding bush Kwihala offers a high level of service, attention to detail and memorably excellent guiding.

Kichaka Expeditions

Days 5-8

Kichaka Expeditions is a private camp which opened in 2013 in a section of Tanzania’s Ruaha National Park far from any of the existing camps. The camp was established by Andrew ‘Moli’ Molinaro and his partner Noelle Herzog, with the aim of focusing on walking safaris – and giving visitors a really wild bush experience during which they could explore one of Tanzania’s most remote areas.
