However, the entire experience, which would have been close to perfect otherwise, was wrecked by the swarms of tsetse flies which plagued every game drive to the point of turning what should be enjoyable outings into endurance tests. I was in deep pain and hugely stressed my entire stay.
This was already a problem at Lake Manyana, and was all the more upsetting as I wasn't expecting it, not having been alerted to this hazard by Expert Africa." See all these reviews: 10n in Tanzania
"Kuro Tarangire"
Our guide Rajabu was really excellent. He was knowledgeable clearly enjoyed looking at the animals also and was very patient with us.
The room at Kuru was large well decorated comfortable. The no air con might be an issue for some people. We ate with the temporary staff looking after the place whilst the usual manager was having time off. They were interesting, enthusiastic about Kuru and Tanzania in general about our age which probably helped.
The setting for the rooms could do with a bit of development as its currently just stubby bits of bush between them.
The walking safari was not that great...I think there are loads of animals around (certainly sounded like it at night!) but we didn't see any and the walk was quite short...it seems like the guides also don't really think this is a good thing to do. It was the only time we felt like real tourists doing something weird!" See all these reviews: 13n in Tanzania
"Great camp with very good game"
The highlight for us was the walking safari which we were surrounded by elephants, honey badgers, zebras and yes lions.
Also, the bucket showers worked well and if you ran out of water too soon, they were happy to bring more. I was also quite surprised how perfect the water temperature was. The room also came with shampoo, toiletries and wash powder and had a usb charger. It would have helpful to know this ahead of time as we wasted luggage space bringing it. We were told they did not have it but this was at no fault to Kuro.
The general notes of "what to pack" for Tanzania from Expert Africa is general across all the camps so be sure to ask your agent to verify with a direct email to the camp. I believe there was also internet but we did not use it so I am not sure the speed." See all these reviews: 10n in Tanzania
"Great game viewing at Kuro"
Our game viewing with Raj was exceptional, we saw lion on every excusion who were either sleeping, eating, thinking about hunting, climbing trees or fighting. We saw cheetah walking, sitting, eating and mistakenly trying to hunt a lion. We saw large herds of buffalo, elephants and wildebeest. The antelope viewing was also great with everything from dikdik to Eland. Special mention must be made to Molell who took us out on our last morning and found us a leopard walking and another in a tree
We stayed three nights at Kuro while most guests stay two and we were on our fourth camp while the others were on their first. There are also a lot of Tsetse fly." See all these reviews: 14n in Tanzania; 3n in Zanzibar; 1n in Kenya

"Almost in the open - wonderful !"
In addition to this we were really lucky and had the night-drive of our lives !!!! This was the moment, when our guide woke up as well, got enthusiastic and said that even he himself had not seen such a scene before: two leopards on one side of the car (one of them in hunting position up in a tree) and on the other side three lionesses putting up their ambush on a group of impalas ! Coming back to the camp we finally saw a spring hare, which is an unusual sight as well, as we were told !" See all these reviews: 21n in Tanzania
"Gorgeous camp, lackluster safari experience"
As far as the park and the wildlife, I would caution anyone considering Tarangire that the guides are required to stay on the main park roads, so we were unable to get very close to any of the animals. We did have good elephant sightings, as they are extremely common and easy to see in Tarangire. There were many other vehicles in the park, and overall it didn't have a very wild feel to it.
On our first morning game drive, rather than stopping for a breakfast in the bush, our guide drove us to a designated national park picnic area, which was paved and developed, with a large parking lot and a bunch of ugly plastic picnic tables. There were 5 or 6 other groups there having breakfast there as well. All of the vehicles at Kuro Camp are fully enclosed with a pop-top roof, rather than the open-sided vehicles that we had been promised. Our guide seemed rather bored and uninterested in guiding, and he ended up functioning more as a driver than as a guide, so our wildlife experience was disappointing.
I would also caution that the tsetse flies are pretty thick in Tarangire!" See all these reviews: 13n in Tanzania
Kuro also tell us that they usually discourage picnic breakfasts from the camp, as in Tarangire you have to use picnic sites - you cannot stop anywhere else in the park. It would seem the guide did not effectively communicate that to these guests, and again Kuro apologise for this.
"Kuro Tarangire Review"
We had a wonderful time. We saw much more wildlife than we had ever expected. This was largely due to our guide Silvanus. His knowledge of the land, plants, birds and animals was quite incredible and we learned so much from him. There was not a question he could not answer. It was a pleasure to have been with him for those days.
Of particular note was a night drive where we had the wonderful and unique experience of witnessing a pack of wild dogs as they followed a herd of zebra and buffalo. In addition we would recommend to anyone the opportunity to go on a bush walk. Silvanus really brought the land and environment to life as he took us around.
If it is possible we would like to contact Silvanus, to whom we would like to send a small booklet about where we live and also Emmanuel who ran the Kuro camp so efficiently as I would like to follow up on a conversation he and I were having about ideas for walks etc." See all these reviews: 9n in Tanzania; 8n in Zanzibar
