"Chongwe River Camp review"
Excellent rooms with a very high standard of service.
Food very good with nice wine.
We really enjoyed the fishing for both tigerfish (biggest 8lbs) and bream. The tigers are catch and release. We did enjoy eating the bream as bar snacks...very tasty. On our last day, another guest in our boat hooked a huge Vundu catfish which he landed after 30 minutes or so. Not able to weigh but estimated at 80-100 lbs. It was 5 feet long with a head the size of a large shovel. Davey the guide wa svery helpful
We also enjoyed the canoe trip on the Zambesi.
We were somewhat disappointed by the game viewing although we only did one long drive.
For us, this is a place to end your trip and relax on the river." See all these reviews: 12n in Zambia

"Chongwe River Camp, fishing discovered!"
We stayed in the Albida suite which was great to have family time having spent previous 10 days eating communally. Edward looked after us very well and was an invaluable help. However it did cause problems as we did not seem to get information on trips and activities or to know the staff as well as we had in other places. We definately felt we were slotted into activities that the guides were organising rather than those we were interested in. eg. We wanted to go canoeing but ended up bird watching whilst the guide paddled. Communication between guests, managers and guides seemed problematic.
Discovering river fishing was a highlight of our stay at Chongwe. David's quiet, patient and gentle manner whilst teaching us to fish was inspirational. My youngest daughter and husband are now converts.
One of my daughters had previously picked up a stomach bug and was very ill during our stay at Chongwe. Debbie, the manager, couldn't have been more helpful." See all these reviews: 10n in Zambia; 6n in Mozambique; 1n in South Africa

We enjoyed a boat ride on Chongwe River and Zambezi River and would recommend this as part of the stay. 5 elephants in camp every day eating the Winterthorn pods and staff took great care of clients when they were about. This all added to the magic of Africa. Plenty of animal river life in particular.
This was an enjoyable experience although the camp was a little larger than we had anticipated. Excellent tent accommodation though our ochre and pebble bathroom decked out like a Victorian grotto was possibly in need of some refurbishment." See all these reviews: 12n in Zambia

Very pleased to be recognised by Daniel (guide) from our visit to Chiawa 5 years earlier!
Location superb and all in all an excellent few days to complete our trip in spite of DSM still being unwell." See all these reviews: 14n in Zambia

Caroline was very warm. The guides were all very good.
The range of activities was great. I went canoeing and fishing, and also on game walks and drives. The visit to Chongwe Falls was particularly fun." See all these reviews: 9n in Zambia

The experiences on the Zambesi (by boat)were very nice, interesting , relaxing, and also a little bit exiting because of the hippo's and crocs!!" See all these reviews: 9n in Zambia

Helpful guides and staff.
The comment below about the food is because we were comparing it to the Kapani where the catering was first class." See all these reviews: 11n in Zambia

The Abida Suite was even better than we had belived possible. Again, like the Lwangwa Safari House I loved the private space it gave us, the freedom it gave us to be a family together and for the boys to jump in/out of the pool without disturbing others, the architecture using local materials and the openness of it to such magnificent scenery. Truly wonderful.
George was our guide for most of the trips and he was fabulous. A real character and a real friend by the end of the trip. First class. He even took us swimming in the Zambesi!
Edward was our waiter and again was magnificent. He was gracious, friendly, polite and and excellent waiter.
Loved this camp. Eat with the main camp on 3 occassions in the evening and we enjoyed the interaction with other guests and staff around the table and fire while having our own privacy when we wanted it." See all these reviews: 10n in Zambia
