"Khulu Bush Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 20 Jun 2024
"This was our least favorite camp. The tranport from Vic Falls was an hour late and we were told it would take 2 1/2 to 3 hours.. it took 4 hours so we got to Khulu much later than we had planned, and the road there was horrible. They claimed that they called the Palm to tell us our pick up would be late, but no one every told us. Once we got there, we were supposed to go right out on a game drive. There was hardly any wildlife in Hwange near Khulu, the best sightings were the elephants at the pool which were great. We basically should have just stayed there and not gone on the game drives. It was freezing there - the rooms were freezing and the game drives in the morning were freezing. If you go in the winter, bring a lot of warm clothes!! It is much colder than anyone tells you. Our guide here was good but he seemed to exaggerate a lot of things..... the owners were there when we visited and they are very interesting. The food was OK but not great." "Wonderful lodge"

2 nights Arrived 24 Aug 2016
"Have only good things to say about the Khulu Ivory Lodge.

Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. The room looking out to the waterhole was wonderful--loved the herds of elephants and buffalo that rambled in.

A special thanks to our guide, Dudley, who was not only a great guide but funny and upbeat and a pleasure to be around. Our stay here was too short!" See all these reviews: 8n in Zimbabwe

"Great experience, fantastic service!"

2 nights Arrived 30 Sep 2015
"No real means of comparison as it was our first safari experience, but we were told by other guests that this lodge experience was of a luxury standard.

The only downside was that the lodge was based outside of Hwange National Park, so the trips to and from the park killed a bit of time. Not a problem if you're planning to spend a minimum of 4 nights, but for a 2 night trip, I would recommend a lodge which is based in the National Park. Otherwise, the location was fantastic, in terms of there being plenty to see around the lodge.

A few creepy crawlies around in the room, but that was to be expected.

Food was of a very high standard, but portions could have been more generous. The drinks on offer were great, nothing more expected.

The staff and service were of the highest standard. We were on a first name basis with all at the lodge and it really did feel like a family experience. Would not have changed that aspect at all." See all these reviews: 2n in Zambia; 2n in Zimbabwe

"Elephants at the pool"

3 nights Arrived 11 Sep 2015
"Khulu is charming and very relaxing but within a few minutes of our arrival a small number of elephants had approached the plunge pool that forms a part of the protective boma around the lodge and were happily drinking from it! Behind them, a hundred yards away at the main waterhole, were dozens and dozens of more elephants that had yet to learn this trick of obtaining the very freshest water.

We also saw cheetah, enjoyed excellent sundowners and - on the last day - another very close encounter with a part of the Presidential herd. I have never been so close in a vehicle to such a relaxed group of elephants. Excellent bird life too to view." See all these reviews: 10n in Zimbabwe
