Activities at Little Gorges

Black eagle viewing

Black eagle viewing

A pair of Verreaux's Eagles nest in the gorge at the lodge and provide our guests with amazing displays of their aerobatic skills and courtship rituals, often at eye level. Evenings are their hunting time so sit back with sundowners and snacks as these magnificent birds soar past on thermals whilst hunting in the gorge. The eagles are not the only birds resident here – lanner falcons, peregrine falcons and augur buzzards also call the gorge home and the interspecific interactions are a highlight when the eagles stray too close to the falcons’ nests.

Gorge walk

The lodge is set in a magnificent and lush indigenous garden with stunning views across the gorge and of the pounding Zambezi River 200 metres below. Explore the area around the lodge accompanied by a guide and when you’re done enjoy refreshments and freshly prepared snacks while you watch the sun set at Peregrine Point.

Pop Up Spa

Pop Up Spa

Imvelo’s ethos is to enrich the lives of those who live around us as well as our guests. As such, we have a strong link with communities around the lodges and our spa treatments fall in line with our proud tradition of empowering the community through providing jobs in tourism as our beauty therapists have been hand-picked from the surrounding community area.

Our therapists were then trained locally to provide you authentic Zimbabwean treatments in the most spectacular settings! We encourage you to enjoy one of these treatments during your stay with us, as you will not only experience some true pampering in the African bush, but you will also be further giving back to our local community.

Spa treatments are available at your private villa on the maisonette level, overlooking the unspoilt acacia woodlands or a destination treatment can be arranged in the Camelthorn concession, close to the lodge, enjoying the sights and sounds of nature.

(Destinations available will vary, depending on seasonality, amount of guests in camp and time of day the treatment is requested.
Please discuss this with management the day before the treatment is requested and they will do their best to ensure something special is arranged.)

Victoria Falls Canyoning

Victoria Falls Canyoning

One of the world's fastest growing adventure sports, canyoning is nothing short of a thrill ride and in a few short decades, has become an adventure staple across the world.

The sport gets outdoors enthusiasts out of their comfort zones as they explore rivers, gorges and other parts of nature normally deemed inaccessible. Whether it's jumping off a waterfall or ziplining or abseiling, there's something for everyone.

Canyoning started as an exploration sport just ike carving or mountaineering. It's still quite a new sport - it has been around for less than 20 years.

It's basically the descent of a river system or a gorge using various techniques and methods. We'll abseil or rappel down waterfalls, we also get to zipline across sections and traverse laterally along rock faces with the aid of secure hand hold and safety lines. There can also be a lot of swimming, walking and climbing. It's all the good stuff thrown together.

Can anyone go canyoning? Yes! Canyoning should be for everybody. Some people do if for pure adventure and adrenaline and for other people it's about exploring beautiful places, and getting access to deep gorges that a lot of people don't gt to see, often over coming personal challenges once thought impossible. With our Professional guides, meeting you at your own individual physical abilities can more often than not get you achieve more than your thought possible, and yet there is enough to test even the most experienced Canyoneer.

The length of the Dibu Dibu gorge is about 1.8m, in which the total vertical decent is about 200m.

Our gorge consists of a series of waterfalls, each with their own plunge pools. They vary in height from 6m-40m, and in profile from vertical drop to stepped over 40m. This allows us to enjoy testing a variety of canyoning techniques, from abseiling "The Generator" or "The Mother in law", to cliff jumping "The Skull" or "The Abyss".

Victoria Falls Tour

Victoria Falls Tour

The world’s largest curtain of falling water, the Falls, is quite simply breathtaking: stroll along the rainforest’s edge and pause at each vantage point to make it a truly unforgettable experience – just don’t forget your rain jacket and umbrella. This can be enjoyed quietly on your own or, at request, with our guide.

Village visit

Village visit

As an important component of Imvelo’s program to actually involve local communities in tourism our guests can enjoy a visit to nearby Chisuma Village to gain insights into some of the real life daily activities of a typical Zimbabwean rural community. Part of the tour includes a spontaneous visit to an individual household where our guests are welcomed and invited to join some of the traditional daily activities such as crushing grain into meal, ploughing the fields and brewing beer
