Great desert experience at Hoodia Lodge

Fantastic desert experience, remote location but not too far from park entrance for Sossusvlei, excellent lodge and chalets (including outdoor bath), very friendly staff who delivered a high level of service, amazing views of the stars at night from our chalet, best ever sundowner.

Thanks for getting our holiday off to a great start.

Hoodia Desert Lodge review

Great lodge, super trip to the dunes, only problem is the sundowner. Lovely location on a hill, amongst the rocks, BUT swarming with rats!!!!!!!!!!! Advised the staff and hope they can get rid on them. Even crawled on our feet!!

Food was very good

Expert Africa comments

Hoodia Desert Lodge were very pleased to hear that these guests enjoyed their stay so much. They went on to explain that the rats encountered were dassie rats. This rodent is typically found among rocky outcroppings in Namibia and South Africa. They are similar to dassie (also known as hyrax) and live in the same environment, hence the name. They are far removed from the pests found in city sewers and backstreets. The dassie rats at Hoodia’s sundowner spot are enticed by the smell of snacks but are wild and wary of humans, so easily scared away if guests feel uncomfortable with their presence.

Hoodia Desert Lodge review

Very comfortable lodge and outstanding staff.

Also brilliant guide into sossusvlei. Mr Trembath got up Big Daddy in 26 minutes which the staff said was a bit of a record amongst their guests.

Great Lodge outside Sossusvlei

We really liked this lodge.

We were given a very warm welcome, the main lodge was very comfortable and our room was great, especially the outside shower! All the food was delicious, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Beautiful setting

We loved this place! The all day activity was great, our guide was good not excellent. We asked for a wake up call and never got one so were running late. The guide told the staff we were lying? Not a big deal but surprising. By the end of the day, the guide started to smile and laugh but it really took some effort.
The folks we shared a vehicle with really made our stay! So glad we did not have a private tour!
The food was good
The lodge was impeccable
The service was attentive and amazing despite no obvious manager around.
Our guide did an AWESOME job finding a white dancing lady spider and scorpion :). He made us a beautiful lunch too.

Outstanding

It all started with a terrific welcome from Enos and never went downhill. The staff were outstanding in their attention to detail and were particularly helpful when we discovered we had a puncture (must have happened on the drive in to the Lodge). Staff were dispatched "to help" and then proceeded to remove the punctured wheel and fit the spare.

The chalet, the restaurant and the swimming pool could not be faulted.

Staying here was one of the highlights of our holiday. There is a lovely atmosphere around the place.

The kitchen staff were extremely attentive to my food intolerances.

Luxurious

Beautiful setting, great private chalets, well appointed, the best food we had on the trip, very attentive service.

We loved the outdoor shower and the lounge/veranda area in the main building.
