Hoodia Is Something Very Special
I was initially a little disappointed that we had not managed to get accommodation inside the Sossusvlei gates, because I had wanted to be there for sunrise over the dunes. In practice we were there very shortly afterwards, and I did not feel that we missed very much. And Hoodia Desert Lodge is ample compensation. I
t is owned and managed on a daily basis by Thomas, an ex London and New York interior designer, and the sense of style he has built into all aspects of the lodge and its rooms is outstanding. This is coupled with a standard of welcome and service which was certainly the best on this trip and in fact rivalled anywhere else we have stayed in the world. The second bathroom open to the stars was a particular treat, and Hoodia was definitely the accommodation highlight of the trip.
We had intended to drive into Sossusvlei in our own 4x4, but chose to go in a small group in Hoodia's own vehicle with their guide Michael - a fascinating and highly knowledgeable man. I would strongly recommend this if Michael is available.
Wonderful, exceptional. Did not want to leave
The highlight of our holiday. What a fantastic welcome. Smiling staff who really enjoyed their work. Guided tour to Sossusvlei by Michael was incredible and we learned so much and Micheal made it so entertaining. Alfresco lunch was amazing, as was our sundowner experience to end our stay.
The star gazing afterwards was such a bonus and unexpected. Should be offered as a planned activity. Spent one whole day chilling at the lodge which was also wonderful. A packed lunch provided on departure was very welcome and a lovely surprise. We cannot rate this place and its staff highly enough.
Lighting a little too low in the chalets. We were not aware that we were on a full board rate and could have had lunch on our second day (probably just as well!)
Other than that, absolutely nothing to complain about.
Beautiful base for Sossusvlei
A luxury lodge ticking all the boxes. Johnny and his colleagues looked after us brilliantly both at base and out exploring Sossusvlei.Read more about the whole safari
A lovely lodge tucked away in the mountains
What a find,! we loved it here, a small camp, very well appointed tented rooms, the main reception areas all very attractive, and food very good, and staff delightful. we had an extremely knowledgeable guide (Michael) who took us out to the Dunes, nothing was too much trouble, including preparing our lunch in quite a gusty wind.Read more about the whole safari
Lovely stay at Hoodia
Great place to stay - one of best places we stayed, great facilities, room was lovely and staff were welcoming and all knew what was going on.
Excellent day trip to dunes, very memorable, guide was brilliant and couldn't have asked for more.
Definitely recommend a couple of nights here.
Hoodia Desert Lodge review
Hoodia had a very friendly feel. It is a small lodge with a lovely location and fantastic accommodation and food.
The trip to Soususvlei was worth doing.
Hoodia Desert Lodge review
Great site if not as well planned as some others.
Two slight drawbacks--lack of game and the cabins were less beautiful than some others, bit they had interesting outside shower/bath & also had a great pool.
Great trip to Sossusvlei with really excellent guide
The way the lodge blends into the landscape is very impressive.
Exceptionally friendly staff and excellent service
Brilliant peace and quiet
Very welcoming. Lovely main building and accommodation. Long approach so in a very quiet desert setting.
Good position for visiting Sossosvlei. Only downside was that we could not get on their own guided tours of Sossosvlei because they were full.
Advise people to book this in advance as it makes a big difference to your appreciation of the dunes.
comfortable base for Sossuvlei
We were the only guests and the managers were away. The staff were very young friendly and helpful and we had an experienced guide who took us to Sossuvlei. Whilst you get to the Park as the gate opens it does still mean that you have another 20/30 mins until you get to the main dunes. It might have been good to stay in the reserve.
The position of Hoodia is very attractive and we saw some amazing thunderstorms, rainbows and had great views of the mountains. The hut was comfortable but as we had the place to ourselves the main terrace overlooking the riverbed was our main focus.
