"Urikaruus Wilderness Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 23 Aug 2023
"Lovely spot with a close waterhole. Lighting at night not too bright. We had unit three. Best wilderness camp for showering.

However, while we were there the nights were cold so bed socks were used. Units are not airtight around the windows.

Eric the attendant was a nice chap helpful and friendly, he came to tell everyone of spotted hyenas at the waterhole on our first evening, which I had already seen.

A caracal was also seen although not identified, I got an image of a big bushy tail as the animal was looking away from us." See all these reviews: 9n in South Africa

"Usually game-rich but not this time"

2 nights Arrived 4 Jun 2018
"We have been to Urikaruus before and had great game viewings. This time we weren’t so lucky, probably because there had been a lot rain, but we will be back as the peace there is sublime.

In terms of amenities the cabin is comfortable although very cold in June at night as no heating. We landed up sleeping in many layers including down jackets! A highlight was an owl in a tree a few feet from our balcony. It sat in the tree the whole day as we watched it and it watched us." See all these reviews: 8n in Zimbabwe; 5n in South Africa

"Great camp"

4 nights Arrived 18 Sep 2016
"Really lovely camp. Staying here gives one the opportunity to drive up to Mata Mata and down to Twee Riveren along the Auob valley stopping at various waterholes along the way.

The waterhole in front of the camp attracts various inhabitants of the area. We were lucky to see the lion and leopard come to drink water from our deck.
We loved this camp and would definitely stay here again!

"Urikaruus - an alternative to South Aoab"

1 night Arrived 19 Oct 2011
"We stayed just one night at Urikaruus which served us to explore the south part of the Aoab river bed. This part of the river bed (from Kamqua to Houmoed) is extremely arid which means that the populations of water dependent antelopes and thus, carnivores, are sparse. Nevertheless we were privileged to watch two different troops of Meerkats, both on different days and at early morning hours.

The camp itself is very well located, with cabins overlooking a waterhole on the Aoab riverbed. Yellow mongoose was seen actively hunting.
The guard was helpful and attentive. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the kitchen very well equipped, and both with a nice balcony to the waterhole." See all these reviews: 14n in South Africa
