Colonial Royal Livinstone

We have very mixed views about the Royal Livingstone Hotel.

It is in a beautiful setting, the falls are amazing, and on the whole our stay there was pleasant. It is however, a large and busy hotel and there is no escaping this, often visited by large tour parties. The aeriel activity (helicopters and microlights) over the falls which run from dawn until dusk makes this quite a noisy place, which came as quite a shock after the peace and quiet of the African bush. Over and above this however, our greatest objection is to the hotel's efforts to retain a colonial feel. Staff are all dressed in pastiche colonial dress which personally we feel is quite deeming. We come to Africa for Africa! Why can there not be pride in African dress?

During our stay we made gentle enquiries with staff regarding their views on the uniforms and in the most part they reported disliking them. Overall service was very good but we found the level of attentiveness on occasions oppressive.

Great location overlooking the river. Giraffe and zebra roam the grounds.

Beware of the monkeys - they stole my biscuit!

Royal Livingstone Hotel review

Wonderful setting with the Zambezi flowing past within yards of us....very well trained and attentive staff......comfortable room.....food lavish and good....I asked for 'mealie-meal' porridge....legacy of childhood in Africa....and it was made for me as a special request.

Definitely more attractive than what we saw of the Victoria Falls Hotel.

Royal Livingstone Hotel review

I found the evening meal a little over priced for the 'quality and quantity' of the food; the a la carte dinner menu was 'not balanced.' I was disappointed with the evening meal in the restaurant, but the breakfast was excellent.

The sun-loungers were most comfortable and the towels provided were of good quality. The swimming pool was well-kept and the sundeck was excellent, as were the cocktails.

I would have liked to have had a 'library' area.

Great Location and Lovely Hotel

Great location, we enjoyed being able to walk along to the Falls whenever we wished, and there was always the added bonus of what wildlife we might meet on the way, seeing zebra and giraffe in the hotel grounds!

Comfortable bedroom, and the food was very good.

Royal Livingstone Hotel review

We enjoyed the Royal Livingstone as it gave us a good place to prepare for our safari trip and to get over the flight. It had a peaceful atmosphere and was close enough to the falls that we could walk to it on our own.

The food was good, if a bit expensive.

Royal Livingstone Hotel review

Great location. Food OK, but we ate out in Livingstone two nights out of three and had great food at Ocean Basket where the staff were very helpful with Taxis etc.

I was unable to borrow a book on Birding they did not have one!!!!
The bar next to the river was a great spot.

We walked across the bridge to the Zimbawe side , well worth doing better views. We bought a double entry Visa for Zambia so saved about 30 dollers each. We carried on to lunch at the Vic Falls Hotel , very nice and good views from terrace.
