Really good activities with a very informative guide (Castro). Easy access to the dunes a bonus.

Kulala Desert Lodge review

Lovely entry point to the start of our trip. Good guide Alfred and very friendly staff.

We thoroughly enjoyed Soussevlei and great recommendation from Alfred to visit the opposite way around to most people and therefore miss the crowds at Dead Vlei

Kulala Desert Lodge review

Great place for visiting Sossusvlei.

Note for self-drivers: although the lodge is geographically closest to Sossusvlei and has a private entrance to the area, this private entrance is not open for self-drivers. Those that insist on self-driving must return to to the public gate at Sesriem (45 min drive) to get to Sossusvlei, or alternatively join one of the tours runs by the lodge.

Note on the tours: the trip to Deadveli was great, the stop at Sossusvlei itself was rather unremarkable.

Kulala Desert Lodge review

Kulala is a lovely lodge and we really enjoyed our time here. The staff were most friendly and helpful. Our guide on all our trips was Richard who was excellent. The morning trips at the Wilderness Lodges include lunch which makes them good value. We did the early morning trip to the dunes and we arrived before it became too crowded. We managed a walk across Dead Vlei without another soul in sight. it was stunning. We also took 2 afternoon drives with sundowners and Richard ably imparted his knowledge of the area.

Our room was excellent and the food superb, especially when you consider how far it has to be transported.

Kulala Desert Lodge review

Balloon ride fulfilled all expectations. Trip to the dunes was good but guide didn’t make much effort.

Again, as a four we found we were seated at the back of the restaurant near the serving hatch and behind the big tour groups.

Excellent Dunes hike

One of the most memorable days of our two weeks in Namibia was the morning dunes hike. We had a wonderful guide and really enjoyed the discussion of the geography of the dunes. The view from the dunes was amazing. It was a wonderful morning.

Go to the dunes!

A long drive to get here...and not great signage from the road. Lovely chalet with option to sleep on the roof which we tried!

One of our more expensive stops, I think but work it for the Soussvlei dune trip early morning-not to be missed.

Good food and wine and generally very relaxing. Pretty hot here in late Sept and we slept in the afternoon

Super amazing stay. Excellent excursions!

Amazing location, super rooms, excellent service, great food. No bad words to say at all. Sleeping on the roof under the stars was really nice and guided tours were great!

Great views of the Dunes

Stunning location like something out of 'Star Wars' top class site and facilities but still with the personal touch have been to Wilderness Safari sites before and they do have a distinctive feel to them.

Visit to and up Big Daddy was excellent despite the mist as was the desert game drive and sunset. Food very good again and the staff entertained us after with local dances and songs which my wife was encouraged to join in with.

Just a quick point for info re the journey to Kulala the D854 was particularly rough, although they had the graders out.
