Two nights overlooking sand dunes.

This is a very special place. Our room/ chalet which was close to the main building was fantastic. It had great views, a deck, lots of room and comfortable beds. The view to the dunes was marvellous.

The public area had many places to sit, a small library of books, bar etc. The swimming pool was well maintained and most welcome as it was 40c when we were there. The set meals were very good. There were tea and cake available in the afternoons - this was also very welcome. Service here was particularly good. All the staff did their best to make us welcome and often had time for a chat. When we were here it was unusually hot and there is no AC, but we just opened the vents in our tented thatched chalet.

You can also spend the night under the stars, as they will put a mattress on the roof of your room!

Amazing desert stop

Kulala was great- the patio overlooking the watering hole for eating and drinking was beautiful. We loved the food too.

The staff were all very friendly and welcoming.

Our only small niggle was that although we did the lodge organised trip into the national park (to avoid the drive to the road and main entrance) we didn't go straight to the main dune so we missed sunrise there and people who had come through the main entrance overtook us which seemed a waste of the shortcut.

We enjoyed trying sleeping on the roof (not for the whole night).

The pool area was delightful. I didn't want to leave!

Beautifully located

Great location, especially being able to get into the dunes before the hordes arrived.

We loved sleeping on the roof under the stars.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Fantastic lodge, very helpful staff, food great.

Terrific day out to the dunes with Michael our guide whose knowledge was extraordinary.

Sleeping out under the stars was also a highlight here.

Kulala Desert Lodge review

Kulala Desert Lodge is perfectly located near the spectacular dunes of Sossusvlei.

The early morning guided drive to visit the dunes is highly recommended. Climbing Big Daddy with our guide was a unique experience.

We also enjoyed watching the stars from the bedroll on the flat rooftop.

Kulala Desert Lodge review

We did not take the trip to Sossusvlei, it left at I believe at 6am.. We drove to the Dead Vlei shuttle instead. We spent most of the day in the park and saw all we wanted without the early rise!

If we were infirm the access to the tents(rooms) would have been difficult, stony narrow paths.

No activities.

Kulala Desert Lodge review

Although I was keen to see this area, I found the rush of the cars entering the park at dawn to be quite overwhelming. Everyone goes down one road and stops and climbs the same dunes. I would advise anyone to climb the full height of the 'Big Daddy@ to get away a little.

We found the staff to be less friendly and interested in guests at this lodge.

However we loved the experience of sleeping out under the stars. Luckily one guide spent some time talking us through the stars beforehand.

Loved this place

One of our favourite places, this lodge is set in stunning scenery overlooking the dunes in the distant.

You immediately feel relaxed and are welcomed with a cold drink and given a comprehensive informal chat on your stay and the facilities. The staff were all very friendly and would spare the time to talk with you. Dinner is served on a large candlelit outside balcony and is delicious. Rooms are spacious and comfortable.

The early drive to the dunes is wonderful with the guides being very capable and eager to share their knowledge.

Our favourite lodge

Kulala is in the most dreamy location just on the edge of the National Park. It is such a privilege to be able to access the dunes through their own private gate.

Everything was so well done. Our room was so well designed and nicely rustic. The excursions were exciting and our guides were so good. The trip to Sesriem Canyon was worth doing but the highlight was the trip to the dunes. The views take your breath away and it is a perfect challenge to try and climb the dunes themselves.

This really was a once in a life time experience. We even topped it off with a balloon flight over this magical landscape.
