Kulala Desert Lodge

Up to usual high standards.
Only criticism was that we had two chalets for three people but they were not together, separated by main building.

Stunning location

Lodge is in a stunning location, Very convenient for visiting the dunes. Don't be put off by the rather ugly appearance of the concrete block at the back of each room which houses the bathroom, the rooms are very attractive.
Nice to be able to just go off for a walk around the area/down to the waterhole on your own.
Staff/service were excellent with great attention to detail. We discovered that they had noticed that Ken limped as he got off the truck on arrival, so had moved us to a room near to the main area. I asked if there was any Stoney's ginger beer at the first sundowner (there wasn't) but I was amazed to find there was some waiting for me on the 'welcome back' tray on our return. Visit to Sesriem Canyon very worthwhile (we hadn't been there on our previous visit).

Stars and Sossusvlei spectacular

The welcome and briefing of what was available was excellent. The rooms were interesting and very good. The night sky was spectacular. The pre-dawn activity of entering the park early with a guide to visit Sossuvlei just after sunrise was really worthwhile.

The best sundowners at Kulala Lodge

Wonderful sunrise trip to Sossusvlei.

Sundowners and meals on the terrace were brilliant, also sleeping on the roof and relaxing in and around the pool.

Perfect location to see the dunes

Tented accomodation was comfortable with great views.

We did the sunrise trip and sunset trip. Both very worthwhile if a bit pricey. We should have been offered a fully inclusive package.

The nature of the location in the desert meant that the food was simple and lacking sparkle but adequate. Our guide and all the staff were enthusiastic and very helpful.

Puncture on hire car was fixed on site and gave no trouble for the rest of our trip.

Two nights overlooking sand dunes.

This is a very special place. Our room/ chalet which was close to the main building was fantastic. It had great views, a deck, lots of room and comfortable beds. The view to the dunes was marvellous.

The public area had many places to sit, a small library of books, bar etc. The swimming pool was well maintained and most welcome as it was 40c when we were there. The set meals were very good. There were tea and cake available in the afternoons - this was also very welcome. Service here was particularly good. All the staff did their best to make us welcome and often had time for a chat. When we were here it was unusually hot and there is no AC, but we just opened the vents in our tented thatched chalet.

You can also spend the night under the stars, as they will put a mattress on the roof of your room!

Amazing desert stop

Kulala was great- the patio overlooking the watering hole for eating and drinking was beautiful. We loved the food too.

The staff were all very friendly and welcoming.

Our only small niggle was that although we did the lodge organised trip into the national park (to avoid the drive to the road and main entrance) we didn't go straight to the main dune so we missed sunrise there and people who had come through the main entrance overtook us which seemed a waste of the shortcut.

We enjoyed trying sleeping on the roof (not for the whole night).

The pool area was delightful. I didn't want to leave!
