"Comfortable lodge, good food, great location"

2 nights Arrived 9 Sep 2009
"We had a comfortable stay here, and got one of the lodges on the edge of the development which meant less units surrounding us. Ours had a/c, but there are only a few with this, and its not really needed at night in September.

There ws a lot of lodges here - ours was very spacious, clean and comfortable. No problem at all with mosquitos. Food was pretty good quality - served outside, and dinner main course choice included a broad selection of freshly grilled game meats cooked to order. All aspects of the service was good here.

We also took the early morning dunes trip through the on site adventure centre, which although quite pricey still worth the outlay, our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and was able to accommodate all the requests of the group throughout the morning. We were also booked for the balloon trip, and disappointed this was cancelled due to the windy conditions. We did feel the communication of this cancellation could have been better, but decided the best thing to do was speak directly to balloon company themselves by phone and would advise others to do the same.

A great feature here was the telescope which was out on one of the 2 evenings we were staying - star gazing was incredible (clearer than in the north in Etosha) and use of the telescope made this even better. We would recommend staying here." See all these reviews: 7n in Namibia

"Sossusvlei Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 16 Aug 2009
"The accommodation was delightful - the roof and sides of the bedroom were canvas and ours looked out over the savanha and a patio covered in red sand - fantastic. The food was excellent - a buffet/salad starter and then a choice of grilled 'exotic' meats or stirfry, both of which were cooked in front of you. There was a wide choice of sweet desserts or cheese and biscuits - a good choice of wine at affordable prices.

We were disappointed to realise that we couldn't reach the dunes by sun rise, so we decided to take a guided tour from the lodge. We were very pleased that we had done so, as our knowledgeable guide left us feeling that we had seen things (a black chested eagle, a vulture, a white dancing spider) and learnt facts that we would otherwise not have done. We also felt confident climbing a dune other than Dune 45 which was covered in people!

However, the people selling the trip should have warned us about the freezing temperatures in the morning, made even more intense by the wind chill factor of driving in an open jeep - by the time we came back, it was warm enough for a dip in the pool. But all 6 of us were frozen, in spite of the blankets, on the way out." See all these reviews: 24n in Namibia; 11n in South Africa

"Great food and wine in a spectacular setting"

2 nights Arrived 7 Aug 2009
"Great location for the drive in to the dunes, with delicious food and wine, and very comfortable 'rooms'. The viewing tower should definitely be visited, and the various game on offer at the grill should not be missed. The only slight criticism was occasionally sloppy service; a few long waits and the beginning of meals, and one missed turn-down.

Make sure you are out bright and early (5.45) for the journey to Sossusvlei, as big queues for the entry tickets form shortly after this. Sesriem Canyon was a slight let-down." See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia
