Brilliant stay at The Constantia

Our stay at The Constantia set the bar incredibly high for the rest of our trip.

Firstly, and most importantly, all the staff we met (management, restaurant and room) were absolutely wonderful - hugely friendly, super-helpful and very genuine. It seemed as though all of them really enjoyed working in the hotel, which makes such a difference. They were attentive and thoughtful throughout our stay, especially so for Clare, given her pregnancy. They were also very good at reserving restaurant tables for us, and giving advice/help with booking attractions (Table Mountain Cableway, Robben Island, etc.). As an example, on our first morning, when the representative came to deliver our hire car, the reception manager not only offered me a coffee whilst we sorted out the paperwork, but offered exactly the same to the car hire employee - not necessary, but a touch that shows the generosity of spirit we experienced from all the staff at The Constantia.

The property is a delight - excellently maintained, and with gorgeous gardens and a nice, small pool (if chilly in late November!). The location was just right for us also - out of the main bustle of Cape Town, but in a very good location for getting into the heart of the city; down to Cape Point, etc.; and of course to the Constantia wineries just down the road. We feel sure that the hotel must have given us an upgrade to their best room, since our accommodation was outstanding - a huge space with lounge area and balcony overlooking the garden, and a splendid his'n'hers bathroom. The extra items in the room (nibbles, cookies, fruit, drinks) were great - a lovely additional touch.

We didn't have one of the light lunches on offer at The Constantia, so cannot comment on that, but breakfast almost obviated the need for lunch! The selection of tropical fruit, pastries, juices, etc., and the optional items on the hot menu, were delicious and almost never-ending. The French Toast will go down in our family history as a seminal breakfast.

Overall, just superb. Thank you so much!

Best hotel ever

Simply fantastic service and comfort.

The staff are excellent whilst being friendly and helping you with everything you need for your holiday. thank you Tess and Sam. They chose restaurants for us and didn't let us down. The hotel driver was really good and was there when you finished your meal without you having to tell anybody.

This hotel is worth every penny you pay to stay there.

Probably the nicest hotel we have ever stayed

What more could this hotel offer? The whole staff seemed to be dedicated to our relaxation and enjoyment. Where else do you get introduced to the support staff (Thom and Beauty and another lady)on arrival?

Tess the manager advised and supported throughout, suggesting wonderful days out. ....and as for the huge bedroom/lounge/bathroom - I was exhausted walking from one end to the other! Lovely garden, great breakfasts.

Somehow we felt as if we had joined a caring family. So glad we spent 6 nights there.

Cape Town Constantia - Superb

So well looked after especially the champagne in our breakfast picnic hamper for our trip to Cape Peninsular.

We were booked into fabulous restaurants each night.

Extremely comfortable, spacious and efficient

We spent only one night at The Constantia but really appreciated the ambience, the space in our room, the relaxing gardens and the welcoming and efficient service.

There is a casual pub-style restaurant next door (Pedlars) which provides good food with friendly service and a separate bar where people were watching sport on television.

We checked out in the morning, but as our flight was not until 9pm, we were able to use all the facilities of the hotel until the evening, including tea, a shower room and a comfortable lounge.

It is the last word

From a purely selfish angle, I hesitate slightly to write about the Last Word, Constantia simply so that I can help keep it secret from everyone else! But that is too selfish and the owners and management deserve to have this little jewel promoted as much as possible.

Tess, Sam and the team provided a lovely four days in Cape Town within an environment of quiet professionalism, cleanliness, outstanding breakfasts, beautifully appointed rooms and wonderful, relaxing grounds that I would suggest would be difficult to beat anywhere in Cape Town (and I have been going there for nearly forty years).

I have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending The Last Word - just don't spread it around too much!

A Good Base - Lovely Gardens

Our room (pool suite) was huge and again beautifully decorated in subtle colours with a light, airy feel. The gardens and pool area were ablaze with colours. Everywhere was well tended. As with the other Last Word hotels, breakfast was lovely as were our 'treats' at turn-down. The staff were friendly and helpful with plenty of suggestions of places to eat.

Conveniently, there is a restaurant next door - it does not pretend to fine dining, but it is more than adequate for a meal at the end of a busy day! Once again the complementary drinks system was much appreciated as was afternoon tea and cake - another pleasing touch of Last Word.

Despite being out of Cape Town, it's well placed for Kirstenbosch, THe Cape, Boulders Beach and the city itself.

Just one small suggestion - an umbrella to shelter under en route from our garden room to the dining room would have been appreciated on a rainy Sunday morning! A minor point, but one worth thinking about!

Stunning

The Constantia was the perfect start to our trip. It is an easy drive from Cape Town airport (20-25 mins max) and although a few miles form the centre of the city, it is another easy drive into the centre where all day parking at the V&A waterfront cost less than £4.

We were personally welcomed and shown to our room. The room itself was fantastic with attention to every detail taken care of. The contents of the free mini bar were top quality and the staff turned down the beds and left a small fresh pudding each evening whilst we were out. The room facilities were first class as was the hotel in general. There is a small pool and a lovely garden area, though we did not get to fully explore these.

Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of food. The staff were attentive and offered recommendations as to restaurants and attractions. They even booked us the table mountain cable car via the computer in reception. There is an in house driver service which we used (free of charge) and we were driven to the restaurant of our choice.

This hotel is one of the very best I have stayed in across the world and comes very highly recommended.
