"africatrip"

I visited Botswana and 2 other countries between 16 May 2009 and 4 Jun 2009
"This was our first trip to Africa and we had only a vague idea of what to expect. The whole trip was fabulous. All the arrangements worked. All the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. All the accomodation was lovely. Even the basic camp on Mboma island was a hoot.

Although we are not birdwatchers, the array of birds pointed out by the guides and spotted by us has made us keen twitchers. Binocculrs are a must. Enjoyed all the food, even the more exotic. The night skies were a treat.

We were a bit surprised to find how cool it was in the early mornings and after sunset and found the ponchos and hot water bottles very useful. Loved the daily sundowner routine. Our highlight was coming upon a cheetah in the early morning and following it for 45mts. There was nobdy else around.

The ballon flight was great fun. skillfully managed by pilot and support staff.

Suggestions for improvements:

I think the way we did ie(Livingstone-Chobe-Linyanti-Khwai) was good. Took too many evening clothes and not enough warm clothes. Picking up the luggage at Jo'burg everytime was a bore and it would be nice to be able trust the security enough to not have to do it. The singing and dancing from the staff at the lodges was hugely enjoyable.

We did spend a lot of time travelling after we left Maun and the drive to and from Kulala was tedious and stressful in parts. Would have preferred a day each in Maun and Windhoek and possibly flown to Kulala as other guests did. The river was ok but could have given it a miss. Overall, it was a fantastic experience which we will recommend to friends" Read full review: 19 nights in Africa; 11 on a Botswana safari

"This was our third trip to Africa and certainly one of our best.

Our itinerary as prepared by Expert Africa perfectly and the recommendations of our agent, Gwynneth, for Xigera in Botswana, and Erongo Wilderness Lodge and Olive Grove Guest House in Namibia, lived up to our expectations.

We like the flexibility of being able to combine our own travel arrangements with those made for us by Expert Africa." Read full review: 34 nights in Africa; 12 on a Namibia trip

"Wonderful trip"

I visited Botswana between 8 Apr 2009 and 17 Apr 2009
"We were delighted with our trip.

All went smoothly - Botswana exceeded our expectations and everywhere we felt looked after and taken care of.

Having spent a considerable sum of money, we hoped that we'd feel it was worth it, and it certainly was in terms of uniqueness of experience and sheer enjoyment.

We felt well prepared for our trip and all went to plan - I like the fact you send a complimentary copy of Chris's book and also the Notes to Travellers are really good.

Thank you for a great holiday." Read full review: 9 nights in Africa; 7 on a Botswana safari

"Varley Botswana Trip"

I visited Botswana between 22 Dec 2008 and 8 Jan 2009
"I've put Gwynneth down as my main contact, although Maruska did most of the up-front planning of the trip. They were both excellent, and the comments for Gwynneth should also apply to Maruska.

We had a great holiday overall and will treasure the memories from it for years to come. We had some of the best bird and mammal sightings we've ever had.

The mettle of a company is how they cope when things go wrong, and we did have 2 hiccups in our trip. The 1st being when the inbound SAA flight was delayed so we missed our connection in Jo'burg and the 1st night on safari, and then when my mother fell ill at the last camp. On both occasions, we were more than happy with the support we got.

In Jo'burg, we phoned Expert Africa in London and told them of our problems. They put us in contact with a local representative from Wilderness safaris called Dave - he was fantastic and ensured we made our connection the following day. If you could pass on our thanks to him, that would be appreciated. I've already said in our feedback on Vumbura Plains how supportive and professional the staff were there." "As a whole the trip was excellent. A lot of conversations and emails went back and forth in the planning stage (thank you for your patience!) to get exactly what we wanted and all of that planning was definitely worth it as the camps hit the mark perfectly on what we were looking for. Proving the detailed knowledge basis of the staff was a strong contributor to the trips overall success.

I was cautious particularly since I was introducing some friends to Bots for the first time. I believe they were extremely impressed with what's on offer and will return to Africa again." Read full review: 9 nights in Africa; 5 on a Botswana safari
