"Doro Nawas review"

2 nights Arrived 23 Aug 2013
"This didn't start off so good. When we came to check in there was no one at the front desk. We inquired and waited, inquired, and waited, inquired and waited and about a literal hour later someone checked us in. This person has to give a talk to you about staying at the lodge and I guess he had to do that with the previous group that checked in...but it seemed like an unforgivable amount of time to make a guest wait.

We came here to go on a desert adapted elephant tour. We saw elephants driving ourselves on the way in and an elephant on the way out...but none on the 5 hour tour...which I understand. If you want a guarantee then go to a zoo...but Ahhhh!!!!. They saw them in the afternoon and made a point of coming to tell us they had seen 18 elephants...which somehow was supposed to make us feel better.

This lodge was beautiful and had a gorgeous view. I think in the morning they need to remember that their guests are freezing and maybe keep the dining area warmer so I don't have to wear a hat and gloves to breakfast. ...Keeping the glass doors closed still allows us to see the gorgeous view. For anyone driving in, we had to pass a Doro Nawas camp on the road that was a little confusing.

Our room was clean. The room service excellent. We appreciated the hot water bottle and special attention from the room staff. I would have loved a robe (since the morning air was so cool) and a blow dryer... The staff was really trying to give excellent service and sang for us one night. The top of the lodge was a terrific place for night star photography. It was a fine place to stay to go to Twefelfontein, the petrified forest, and organ pipes. I would have like to have taken in the living Museum as well." See all these reviews: 18n in Namibia

"Desert Elephant safari"

2 nights Arrived 13 Aug 2013
"The rooms were large and stunning with a fantastic panoramic view of distant mountains. The wheel out beds were great; even in winter! The stars were fantastic to watch while lying wrapped up warm. Staff were great fun and very good with excellent food. Make use of the courtyard seat round the fire at night.

The Desert Elephant Safari with Ryan was a highlight. It took Ryan a long time to locate the elephants but once found we spent a good time viewing them and learning about them. The scenery we saw during the search was great.

We would also recommend the living museum which is about 5-10 minuted drive." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia

"We did not stay long enough to have the time to enjoy some activities but the camp itself was very nice and the food amazing.

Perhaps the swimming pool could be heated with solar panel so that it could be enjoyed during the whole year." See all these reviews: 7n in Namibia

"Close up views of Desert Elephants."

2 nights Arrived 6 Aug 2013
"A long drive from Swapokmund but a very warm welcome when we arrived.

Lovely tents, if a bit dark, but with nice views and a lovely terrace where you could push the bed out for the night! It is,however
chilly and very windy so think that is probably unlikely!

Rather strange meal!

Amazing trip out to see the Desert Adapted Elephants! Able to get really close to them, including a week old baby! Freezing trip back to camp in open jeep!" See all these reviews: 19n in Namibia

"Doro Nawas review"

2 nights Arrived 5 Aug 2013
"Doro Nawas looks like something out of Mordor, a stone fort lowering atop a pile of shale. First impressions were NOT good.

However, the staff were very friendly, if slightly chaotic, the food was fine and the rooms were lovely. Hot water bottles at night (they were COLD nights) .

We had a memorable dinner on top of the 'fort', with moroccan-type candles everywhere. Really special.

The trip to see the desert adapted elephants was wonderful. We spent hours with them and our guide really knew his stuff." See all these reviews: 17n in Namibia

"Doro Nawas review"

2 nights Arrived 27 Jul 2013
"Our favourite lodge.

The accommodation is excellent with spacious rooms sliding doors giving uninterrupted views to the mountains beyond. Staff were so helpful and their evening singing and dancing very enjoyable

The lodge affords easy access to other local attractions but the highlight was the safari to search for desert adapted elephants

Michael shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with us , successfully tracking the elephants to the local village and then moving the jeep to various locations to watch these amazing animals. Had the priveledge of watching 20 elephants including a 7 day old one in their natural environment.

It was the only lodge that we could not use hair dryers in the rooms but considering everything else that Dora Nawas has to offer this did not affect our stay." See all these reviews: 17n in Namibia

"Outstanding in all aspects"

2 nights Arrived 2 Jun 2013
"Staff were exceptionally helpful and tried very hard to ensure that our stay was most comfortable. Would highly recommend Doro Nawas.

We arrived with low fuel levels expecting to find fuel available close to the site. This was not the case and there was not even an emergency stock available for travellers - only diesel. This resulted in a 150 km detour on poor gravel roads to refuel. Fuel should be provided for the surrounding area." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia; 1n in South Africa

"Sleeping under the stars"

2 nights Arrived 5 May 2013
"We arrived at the end of the "wet season" during which Damaraland received practically no rain. The rivers were already dry and the elephants could be found drinking at the water troughs of nearby farms.

There was little wildlife, but this is a tough environment, especially in a drought year. We did not find the region very compelling, perhaps because it looked quite a bit like the U.S. desert southwest. But the rooms at Doro Nawas were very nice and being able to roll your bed out onto the deck and sleep under the stars was magical." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia

"Elephant central"

1 night Arrived 5 Apr 2013
"Huge room that allowed us to roll our beds outside and sleep under the stars which was lovely.

We went on the afternoon game drive to find the elephants - we were the only two guests for the trip and had an amazing time, literally taking hundreds of photographs. It took an hour of tracking to find the herd and was well worth it, then we went off to find the lions. Unfortunately they were hiding but we were out for five hours in total and experienced some incredible scenery - none of which we would have thought to see from the location of the camp itself.

The staff singing after supper was lovely." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia
