Perfect base for Swakop
We couldn't recommend the Cornerstone Guesthouse highly enough.
Fantastic service - within 5 minutes of arriving we were checked in, and restaurants booked for us. They even gave us a mobile phone for the duration of our stay, programmed with contact numbers for assistance. Rooms are bright, comfortable and clean. Breakfast very good too.
Cornerstone Guesthouse review
Very efficiently run, Bettina anticipated everything we wanted including an early breakfast so that we could go kayaking.
Very helpful suggesting restaurants and making bookings.
Delightful Cornerstone Guesthouse
The guest house is ideally located in the centre of Swakopmund. It has secure parking. The hosts are excellent and provided a great breakfast.
The rooms are well-appointed and comfortable. Each room has a verandah overlooking well-kept gardens, ideal for a drink before dinner.
Comfortable and convenient
Cornerstone Guesthouse was ideal as a base. The hosts were very helpful and booked our Walvis Bay trip for us. The breakfast was fresh and plentiful and the location is good for the town. It was grey and windy in Swakopmund and even rained a little. The room was small although the little porch area was good and the bathroom spacious and with v good facilities.
Worth noting that the jetty has been renovated and The Jetty restaurant is very good (at least as good as The Tug which is mentioned in all guidebooks). The Swakopmund museum is worth visiting even though it is quite old fashioned in its style. Overall, in the post-Xmas season, everywhere was very quiet.
The boat trip out from Walvis Bay was well worth taking, as aside from the seals, pelicans and cormorants that join passengers on the boat, the crew (with a woman skipper) talked knowledgeably about the Chinese investment in the port facilities and the related infrastructure. In the afternoon, using the same company (Mola Mola) we went on a land rover trip out to Sandwich Harbour, previously a large fresh water lagoon but now lost to coastal erosion. Again a very knowledgeable guide, who had lived and worked in the dunes for years, and was able to show us the insect and small mammal/reptile life, as well as the inevitable dramatic dune driving.
This is real gem of a guest house - good location, generous sized rooms with small private veranda, very helpful staff, good breakfast choice, neat small garden, good security, and free Wi-fi.
Interestingly, later on our trip we met two other parties who had also stayed at Cornerstone (and highly rated it) and another couple who were booked-in. Very popular - best to book well in advance.
A really lovely and convenient B&B.
The staff at Cornerstone were extremely helpful, they suggested restaurants for dinner and helped us to book a dune buggying activity (which was fabulous!) the next day. They also provided us with a mobile phone during our stay which was invaluable.
The B&B itself is extremely comfortable and in a very central location, breakfast was good and it was a very convenient place to stay in Swakopmund before the next leg of our journey.
This is not a reflection of the B&B itself, but I would not recommend staying in Swakopmund for more than a day/night unless you have specific activities arranged. We didn't find much to do in the town itself, and didn't find it particularly pleasant to wander around.
This comfortable guest house is ideally situated to explore Swakopmund on foot.
The owners were very helpful and managed to book tables at The Jetty and The Tug restaurants even though it was the weekend. Tip if you want to shop avoid the weekend as most shops close by Saturday lunchtime. The museum is worth a visit.
Cornerstone Guesthouse review
Very friendly, clean and pretty in well cared for property. Service excellent and they found us reservation for dinner.
A friendly central guesthouse.
We had a very warm welcome and it was nice to see Peter again whom we had met 3 years earlier when we stayed here. Nothing was too much trouble, restaurant bookings and trip confirmations were all done for us.
It is in a convenient position in Swakopmund with an easy walk into town and to restaurants.
Some of the restaurants listed in our travel books have closed down and they were all very full. We would recommend early booking for the Jetty and the Tug as they are very popular and interesting places to eat in.
It rained whilst we were there, something people said had never happened before!
We all enjoyed the kayaking with Jeanne of Ecotours and the trip to the Cape Cross seal colony was well worth the long rather dull drive.
Friendly service, great location
We were greeted by a very friendly woman (Robyn) at the service desk who told us everything we would need to know about our two nights in Swakopmund. She also gave us a cell phone (not just a number) to contact her after hours if necessary since she does not live on the property.
We had the huge apartment-like room adjacent to the parking area. It was tastefully furnished and *so* big. A full living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. We didn't need a room that big but it was nice to spread out a bit. The advantage of the smaller rooms is that they overlook the garden area which is definitely a better view than what we had. But we didn't spend much time looking at the view so we were ok with the big room.
We had already booked a scenic flight on our own so Robyn just helped us confirm it over the phone with the flight company. This ended up being a very good idea because the plan for the flight actually changed, and if we hadn't called to confirm, the flight company would not have known how to contact us. Robyn recommended we eat at Kucki's for our first night and made the reservation for us.
We also had the staff take care of our laundry the next day. Seeing piles of beautifully clean and folded laundry on our bed when we got back that day was surprisingly exciting after being covered in dust for days!
The owners were there in the mornings and oversaw the breakfast service. They too were extremely friendly and helpful.
Cornerstone Guesthouse is an excellent choice for Swakopmund. It's centrally located, the staff are great, and the rooms are nice and have everything you need.
