The meandering Rufiji River lies at the heart of Nyerere National Park

It forms a complex network of channels, lakes and swamps.

It is a great place for game viewing...

...as well as admiring the beautiful scenery.

Wild dogs can be spotted...

...and also herds of elephant.

Nyerere National Park also has an extraordinary birdlife...

...with over 440 species.

...and elephants as they come down to the river.

Nyerere National Park is worth a visit.

"Southern Tanzania safari"

I visited Tanzania between 22 Feb 2014 and 14 Mar 2014
"We had a fabulous trip. Everything went to plan. The wildlife in the Selous was fabulous and we'd love to go back. Ruaha was beautiful and we would return but would either stay at a different camp in February or go back to Mdonya but at a different time of year.

The guides were probably not as well trained as we expected for camps of this quality - they were enthusiastic and friendly, but were not so good at communicating what the plans were for each day, or to establish what we knew, what we wanted to see, what we had seen before etc. Emanuel/Zahor (Manze) and Gerhard (Impala) were the best at communication.

The trip certainly whetted our appetitie for seeing more of Tanzania!

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:

Not really. You are very good at what you do so keep doing it! The camp managers were all very complimentary about Expert Africa - Barbara (Impala) said that you are the best tour operator she deals with - so keep doing what you are doing!

On feedback, it might make it easier to complete if you had a narrative box against each question to comment on, for example, food, activities etc, rather than one large box at the end. It has certainly taken us rather longer than we had intended to get this completed!

With regard to Mafia it would be helpful to highlight on your website that snorkeling is very much tide dependent, so that anyone who is keen to snorkel might want to check tides and dates to make the most of their time there.

And finally - we would like to thank Angela for organising a very special trip. Some of our feedback might sound a bit negative but we would like to strees that we had a really fabulous time. It's easy with feedback to focus on the things that were not perfect and our comments are intended to highlight those areas where things could be even better. Please don't think that we are 'having a moan' in any way." Read full review: 20 nights in Africa; 18 on a Tanzania safari

"Selous, Ruaha and Butiama Beach trip 2014"

I visited Tanzania between 15 Feb 2014 and 1 Mar 2014
"Very satisfactory doesn't really convey how happy we were with our trip. Everything was excellent. Right from the start when we first contacted Ellie it was obvious that we were dealing with someone who was really doing everything possible to ensure that we had a great holiday and we really did, apart from the fact that she couldn't conjure up sightings of Wild Dog and Whale Shark ( and I'm sure she would have if it were possible!) it really was a memorable holiday which all four of us would happily do again. Particular thanks are due for the recommendation to stay at Butiama Beach on Mafia which really was just the place we were looking for to unwind before returning home. We certainly would have no hesitation in recommending both Ellie and Expert Africa to friends and family and will definitely be contacting them again when next we return to Africa." "My Holiday in Selous and Ruaha"

I visited Tanzania between 6 Feb 2014 and 17 Feb 2014
"Just another wonderful holiday from Expert Africa.

Ellie was so helpful and her suggestions about where to stay excellent. She also helped so much with the many queries I had and was very patient in helping to sort out the itinerary.

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:

No suggestions as this is our 5th holiday that you have arranged and I can only say that we have always had excellent service and will certainly use Expert Africa for our next African holiday." Read full review: 11 nights in Africa; 9 on a Tanzania safari

"Overall..."

I visited Tanzania between 20 Jan 2014 and 31 Jan 2014
"Overall it is hard to see how the trip could have been better. The trip was just right for us in that it was fairly active but in non-intrusive luxury.

Impala being on the River Rufiji gave a great amount of variety to the safaris. It wasn't a pampering experience - we were not looking for that - but fairly luxurious by most standards as long as you don't want AC, chandeliers and carpets. mAfia Island again suited us perfectly. It isn't really a beach holiday and again that is not what we were after. The island has a gently undeveloped feel - again it depends what you are after. The possibilities for marine activities are good for beginners and experience scuba divers with as rich a diving experience as one can get in the best of locations.

The team at EA obviously know their onions. Elizabeth did a great job taking over from where my own research had got to, with helpful recommendations and all at short notice.

"Life changing. Planning our next trip already"

I visited Tanzania and 1 other country between 9 Jan 2014 and 23 Jan 2014
"This was our first time to Africa. We were overwhelmed by the vastness of the country, its rich culture wildlife and complexities of its people and history. More of an experience than a holiday, we would probably concentrate on 2 destinations next time as we felt rather tired with all the flights.

One thing is for sure, once you have been Africa stays with you, and you will quite possible never look at the world the same way again!" Read full review: 14 nights in Africa; 7 on a Tanzania safari

"My Jan 2014 trip"

I visited Tanzania between 3 Jan 2014 and 10 Jan 2014
"We thoroughly enjoyed our 7 nights in Tanzania. The two camps were both excellent and had their particular strengths. We enjoyed all of our guiding, the food was excellent, the transfers were seamless and we didn't get a lot of bug bites. All of the staff at both camps were so friendly and eager to help or explain things.

This was a trip of a lifetime and we cannot stop thinking or talking about our experience." Read full review: 7 nights in Africa; 7 on a Tanzania safari

"My Dec 2013 trip"

I visited Zanzibar and 1 other country between 25 Dec 2013 and 7 Jan 2014
"Based on a 'general idea'of what we wanted - Angela put together an absolutely perfect itinerary for us as a family. Her expert knowledge really guided us in our final choices and she spent plenty of time over quite a few calls discussing different scenarios and timetables of how to organise the trip.

Up to the time of leaving - Angela was regularly answering queries about the trip - always being available to guide and reassure us on preparations." Read full review: 13 nights in Africa; 6 on a Zanzibar holiday

"December Tanzanian trip 2013"

I visited Tanzania and 1 other country between 23 Dec 2013 and 9 Jan 2014
"Our trip was brilliant and we had a fantastic time. We found the wildebeest migration excellent, and saw a huge amount of game in the varying places. Some of it, very special. Our guide, Godwin, provided by Nomad, was great fun and very enjoyable to spend time with. He was also very good at finding the animals. Very much enjoyed the Nomad camp and met some great people. Although, Kirurumu was in a great location, we probably would have preferred to go somewhere not quite so bush, especially after the Nomad experience. We all were ready to have proper showers and toilets! The Crater itself was beautiful and well worth visiting. The good thing about our location was that we could get into the Crater early and avoid some of the crowds.

Zanzibar was great and we really loved Pongwe Beach Hotel. It's a beautiful place with a great bar, restaurant and sitting area. It was very relaxing and we enjoyed walking to a local restaurant for lunch one day. Only negative thing was being in the garden rooms, rather than the sea facing, as they were much better rooms with more breeze. We left one night early so that we could go to Stone town and had a great night there at Emerson Spice. We very much enjoyed Stone Town.

Beho Beho and the Selous were fantastic. Our room had a magnificent view and it was very luxurious. The whole lodge emphasises the luxury and it is very comfortable with great food. Unfortunately, we were the only ones there for the majority of our stay, so it felt a bit empty. However, the managers, guides and staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable and did their utmost to make us feel at home. We saw a lot of game and did some walking, although it was extremely hot while we were there so could not walk as much as I would have liked.

Once again, Expert Africa organised a brilliant trip for us and everything went extremely smoothly. Only one issue was with Echo Tours in Zanzibar who failed to pick us up on time on two occasions. In their defence, we had changed the times, but had given them plenty of notice." Read full review: 17 nights in Africa; 11 on a Tanzania safari
