"Very pleasant relaxing place to stay"

2 nights Arrived 26 Aug 2009
"Didn't see much game here, but enjoyed the guided morning walk. Very friendly relaxed atmosphere, good food, and very comfortable lodge.

Electricity was provided by a generator which went off quite early in the evening, and could perhaps be left on a bit longer." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia; 2n in Botswana

"Enigma Lodge"

3 nights Arrived 4 Jun 2009
"A sense of humour is essential if you are to stay at Hobatere Lodge. Elctrical Power is only available between 1700 and 2200 hours, the rooms
were probably designed by Basil Fawlty or Mr.Bean. A huge branch of a tree is positioned on the bed head at the exact position to render one
unconscious should one sit up quickly.
The Tree House looks as though it was constucted by a troop of baboons, during our stay a couple who had booked the "Tree House"
refused point blank to stay there.
A coach party arrived on our last day, and this did not improve matters.

The highlight of Hobatere was the waterhole, superb photo opportunities, Elephant, Oryx, Kudu, Hartmann,s Mountain Zebra and many more,
super." See all these reviews: 17n in Namibia

"Hobatere Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 1 Jun 2009
"This was a very friendly lodge. They don't have animals in the same numbers as in Etosha itself, but we really enjoyed the game drives.

The rooms were lovely, the food was excellent and serving staff were really friendly and helpful. It was nice to have buffet style meals as the amount of meat was becoming too much by this point on our trip, so it was great to see some vegetables!

The owners drove us out to the hide one day and left us for 2 hours, which was lovely as we saw an elephant (as well as looots of zebra, oryx, springbok etc). The lookout point from the main lodge was also good, and pool lovely. It was all set out very nicely.
A very enjoyable stay." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Out-of-the-way lodge in interesting reserve."

2 nights Arrived 24 May 2009
"Took us well off our route but just about worth it. Very pleasant atmosphere in and around the lodge inc. two lovely tame rescued genets they had reared (but about to be released into wild). Did not see very much wild life on the daytime game drive, perhaps unluckily, but the night time drive was a good initiative (inc. spotter sitting on front of vehicle with powerful torch) on which we saw a number of different smaller animals including several bat-eared foxes.

The 'water hole' viewing building was good but the hole - seemingly natural and possibly a cut-off section of a river - was far too distant from it with animals disappearing from view when going down to the water. The bill we had to pay at the end was rather high when in many places it was fairly nominal." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia

"Less frills than some of the other accommodation we stayed in but the warm welcome, food, hide and night drive more than made up for this.

A great introduction to wildlife prior to Etosha." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Hobatere Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 4 Sep 2008
"An excellent value stay. A warm welcome from our hosts, and friendly service and help throughout or stay both from our hosts and from staff.

A delightful site, with gardens, plenty of places to sit, including an upstairs louge with a view - and animals (elephants while we were there) wandering through the compound as you sleep.

The refurbished chalets are very comfortable - well-equipped & tastefully decorated. The one shortcoming is the limitation on electricity, with no supply to the chalets after 10pm. This has limited impact (we were asleep by 10pm anyway), but it does mean that air conditioning and fridges are not possible - but even these shortcomings do not matter too much when there is a good breeze in the evening.

Excellent game drive, with plenty to see, and enjoyable time in the two waterhole hides.

Super food. and a warm welcome (throughout our stay) from hosts and staff alike. Strongly recommended." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Hobatere Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 5 Jul 2008
"Hobatarere Lodge was almost unique amongst the lodges that we visited as it is run by the owners, Steve and Louise, who chatted to us and other guests before dinner. This was a very nice personal touch which made our visit here particularly enjoyable.

The game drives were excellent, we were lucky to catch our first sight of lions during our morning drive and saw them again during our evening drive. We were also able to watch the lions from a hide overlooking a water hole.

This Lodge was well worth the drive, some distance out of our way, to visit." See all these reviews: 25n in Namibia

"Hobatere Lodge review"

3 nights Arrived 28 Apr 2008
"A very special place, hosts providing a memorable experience despite current major renovations, now completed. Food was exceptional.

The morning game walk and evening drives with Martin and Steve were the highlights, along with the unexpected bonus of a morning in a distant hide.

Steve, the host, made a special drive to see a pride of lions." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia; 3n in Zambia
