Activities at Abu Camp
Wilderness Abu Camp – Birding
Situated deep in the Western Okavango Delta, Wilderness Abu Camp is home to exceptional birdlife in amazing vistas. Amongst the hundreds of bird species that reside in the area, particularly exciting species include: lesser jacana, African pygmy goose, wattled crane, slaty egret, coppery-tailed coucal, malachite kingfisher, white-browed coucal, pied kingfisher, rufous-bellied heron, southern ground hornbill, and even rosy-throated longclaw.
Wilderness Abu Camp – Game Drives
Morning and afternoon game drives are offered in open 4x4 safari vehicles. These drives showcase the abundance of wildlife in the varying habitats which range from open grasslands to secluded island sanctuaries, and papyrus-fringed channels. One of the best ways to appreciate just why the Okavango Delta was made UNESCO’s 1 000th World Heritage Site.
Wilderness Abu Camp – Guided Nature Walks *
Walking in the bush with an experienced guide can be one of the most exciting ways of viewing game, as well as appreciating the smaller critters and flora, in and around this magnificent private reserve. A truly memorable experience awaits.
* Seasonal and subject to the availability of a qualified walking guide.
Wilderness Abu Camp – Mokoro Excursions *
Season-dependent mokoro excursions offer a taste of the more conventional Okavango. The traditional dugout canoes are navigated by a skilled poler and offer guests a tranquil perspective of the region. Mokoro excursions offer a romantic taste of the 'postcard' Okavango.
* Water levels permitting.
Wilderness Abu Camp – Wilderness & Olympus, A Visionary Partnership *
The partnership between Wilderness and Olympus provides state-of-the-art cameras for guests to try on game drives, mokoro excursions, and on guided nature walks. Our passionate guides are able to provide the best insights, and recommendations to capture that picture perfect moment.
* Olympus Photo Hub experience dependent on camera availability.
