"Halali Restcamp review"

2 nights Arrived 8 Sep 2008
"This camp felt more like a small town, large enough to make it worthwhile taking the car when going to the restaurant. As a result it was necessarily impersonal, and very different from all the other places we had stayed in. (However, it appeared smaller and more intimate than the Okaukuejo camp we passed through when we entered Etosha.)

We were given a two room bungalow, air conditioned and equipped with a fridge, which was most comfortable and gave us an opportunity to wash some clothes and sort ourselves out, although it inevitably lacked the character of the other camps/lodges we had stayed in. The eating arrangements in the restaurant were adequate if not exciting, and care had to be taken not to arrive at a busy time (coming early avoided all problems).

The waterhole was overlooked by a covred seating area on a rocky outcrop. While we watched on the two nights we saw numerous guinea foul and three rhinos but not much else. Perhaps we were unlucky, but if so this was made up by the sights we saw at the many waterholes we visited during the day.

Rather surprisingly, we were told that the camp was not running any game-watching trips that week - we had thought an evening one might have been worth doing.

The camp's central location was convenient for visiting waterholes to the east and the west. The large swimming pool was appreciated for a mid-day cooling off beteen animal watching." See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia; 6n in South Africa

"Very similar comments as for Okaukuejo. It is again the waterhole that provided the main attraction and which was truly remarkable in the diversity of the wildlife and the little dramas taking place: a baby elephant falling into too deep water and being pulled out by its mother; a standoff of somewhat unfair proportions between a wart hog and an elephant; rhino competing for the "best " drinking site and so on.

As with no doubt all the camps in and around Etosha it is the easy access to the park and its waterholes that is their main facility. As I said, I would stay anywhere to enable me to experience Etosha but that is not intended to be a crticism of the camps which were perfectly adequate." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia

"Halali Restcamp review"

2 nights Arrived 31 Aug 2008
"It is bit come down after staying at Okaukuejo Restcamp. The good point of this restcamp is its central location, meaning that we can drive around in the heart of Etosha.

Someways, I found this restcamp more peaceful than Okaukuejo that tends to be crowded and hectic with so many visitors roaming around.

The bathroom in our room does certainly need to be updated. Found it very cramped." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Good central base"

4 nights Arrived 27 Aug 2008
"We were pleasantly surprised with the standard of accommodation, the rooms were clean and more spacious than we'd expected.

The breakfast was fine, but after the first night we decided to self-cater our dinner, we'd already bought some supplies with us, and the shop provided the rest, some foreward planning is needed as the steaks etc are sold frozen, but with a bit of ingenuity and a swiss army knife we managed to eat quite well, after two weeks of cooked breakfasts & 3 to 5 course dinners it was nice to eat a little more frugally.

We did a morning drive and Martin our guide was a wealth of knowledge, giving us tips on where to go and when, we kept in touch with him through the rest of our stay and got information on what was about. All in all a good central base to discover Etosha." See all these reviews: 17n in Namibia

"Great location for animal watching"

2 nights Arrived 25 Aug 2008
"Our experience at Halali was much better than we had anticipated. Despite its size compared with other locations it was peaceful, the accommodation was simple and stylish and the big plus is the waterhole. Even the communal dining was less canteen-like than we feared (we were particulalrly fortunate to coincide with the Bank Holiday celebrations as the evening meal was an outdoor barbecue accompanied by singing and dancing. The standard of the food again exceeded our expectations.

The location of Halali, both in terms of its centrality within the park and its waterhole is what makes it so good (the large swimming pool was also a big hit with the family).

The sights and sounds of all of the wildlife at the waterhole at night (elephant, rhino, lion etc etc) will stay with us for ever and fulfilled our dream when we set out on this trip - this was why we came!

One practicality that we had misunderstood was that we had to pay the Park entrance fees whereas we had thought this charge to be included as we were staying in Halali." See all these reviews: 10n in Namibia

"Same arrangement at Okaukuejo in terms of food and key deposit. Staff were also similar. We prefered the accomodation here. We has a small kitchen area and seperate lounge as well as a patio.

The waterhole is smaller than at Okaukuejo and further from the camp. It was not visited by the same numbers of animals but we did see leopard and enjoyed a sunset watching a herd of 15 elephants coming to drink. The waterhole is in a more natural setting and the atmosphere is quieter. Very enjoyable, nut you have to be patient." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia
