"Magical waterhole at Okaukuejo Restcamp"

2 nights Arrived 24 Jan 2009
"Beautiful new rooms in the waterhole chalets, very well appointed with probably the most comfortable beds on the entire trip.

Food is excellent quality in the self service dining room with fresh steaks grilled to your liking. Very good value also.

There had been a lot of rain and we appreciate this is not the best time of year to see game in Etosha and the waterhole was not very active. However it is a magical experience at night when it is floodlit." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia

"Contenders for the "Jobsworth" award"

2 nights Arrived 1 Dec 2008
"This camp has, obviously been refurbished. The accommodation clean and comfortable but who forgot to put any hooks or shelves in the bathroom?

The facilities were good, the food was good but, oh dear! where did they find their staff? If they had any training at all it was to remember that "the guests are there for your benefit, not the other way round".

There were lots of people 'hanging around' but a broken glass by the waterhole was still there 24 hours later and seats which had been moved into a circle were not tidied until guests were compelled to drag them on their own." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia

"Too many tourists"

2 nights Arrived 9 Nov 2008
"The Chalet was very good, spaciuos and confortable. It is a pitty that although we were in front of the waterhole we could hardly see it because of the trees (and it is more expensive !!!). Fortunately the waterhole itself was not crowded or noisy at this time of the year.

Okaukuejo is too busy with tourists. We have visited Namutoni which is nicer and much calmer." See all these reviews: 19n in Namibia

"Okaukuejo Restcamp review"

2 nights Arrived 6 Nov 2008
"We were not made to feel welcome on our arrival. The lady collecting the Permit Fees was very unhelpful and rude (their card machine was not working).

The room was nice as they have just been refurbished, but the resturant staff and service were abismal. They really need some customer care training - its such a contrast to the service and friendliness we found at all the other places we stayed.

Nice waterhole, a relaxing place to watch the animals after the chaotic resturant experience." See all these reviews: 20n in Namibia

"Okaukuejo Restcamp review"

2 nights Arrived 26 Oct 2008
"Very busy and seemed full but this did not detract from the experience. Camp is newly renovated and our waterhole chalet was very comfortable, well equipped and in a good position. However the room appeared cramped.

The waterhole, while not visible from the room, was close enough to carry your drink and provided day-long interest in late October. ON arrival we immediately saw springbok, zebra, giraffe, black-faced impala and jackal. It is also well lit at night with sodium lamps (set the white balance on your camera manually!) when we saw black and white rhino and elephant.

It is a very good base for visiting the best waterholes at the West end or Etosha. Gemsbokvlakte was really good where we saw a pride of lions holding the water while large herds of springbok, oryx and zebra waited to drink. Nearby a small pride of lionesses were sitting in the shade by the road. There were also plenty of birds, notably the Kori Bustard, red crested korhaan and giant eagle owl.

Unfortunately the service was very poor at reception and in the dining room but this did not spoil the lodge for us. Food was good buffet style and plentiful but must be paid for on the spot (cash or cards) and cannot be charged to your room.

Pools complex looked very good but we did not have time to use it!" See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia; 9n in Botswana

"Brilliant Waterhole"

1 night Arrived 23 Oct 2008
"We stayed here for the floodlit waterhole. and it was worth it. In the darkness we saw 2 Rhino, elephant, giraffe, and heard a male lion roaring in the distance which made our spines tingle.

We had no problems with the food, there was plenty, although not the same standard as other lodges we stayed at. A local school came and sang during dinner which was very good.

Our family chalet was large and comfortable although the concrete bathrooms did look rather strange, they worked fine.
I wouldn't want to stay here too long, but definitely worth at least one night for the waterhole." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia

"Excellent for game viewing at water hole"

2 nights Arrived 13 Oct 2008
"The water hole offered a fantastic chance to see a great variety of animals in large herds. It was like a kaleidoscope of movement.

It was easy to drive out to visit other water holes during the day. The rooms were very comfortable although surroundings concrete and roadway.

The reception and restaurant service was poor but facilites for shop and post office good." See all these reviews: 17n in Namibia

"Okaukuejo Restcamp review"

2 nights Arrived 5 Oct 2008
"Last year we stayed just outside the park because we had been warned (not by Expert Africa) that rest camps were unreliable. This meant we could not be at water hole at dawn and dusk and after dark.

This year we had a waterhole chalet which gave us excellent game viewing literally on our doorstep. The restaurant was fine once we mastered the system - choose a raw steak and get it cooked to your liking. ( comments in `trip advisor` were not complimentary)" See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia

"Okaukuejo waterhole great place for wildlife"

1 night Arrived 29 Sep 2008
"Reception staff were surley and somewhat ignorant and made the introduction to the camp a disappointment. However, once over this, the camp was a revelation from what we expeted from reading guide books.

Accommodation was very good standard and the camp plenty of space, clean and tidy. Waterhole particulary good feature and we saw a number of specacular wildlife events there. Food is OK, but as it is buffet did run out of some items. Overall the camp has undergone some significant refurbishment making the stay comfoprtable, they just need to do the same with reception."
