Drove into Swakopmund in a sandstorm so possibly not a good introduction. The location of Beach Lodge was really good but it was VERY cold while we were here so could not take full advantage of the spectacular beach. However a couple of very windy beach walks enabled us to see the paddling flamingos and lots of other bird life. Our room had lovely views although on an upper floor and no lift.
The Wreck restaurant was not open on Sunday so we ate in Swakopmund. Tried several restaurants without success as the girl on reception had recommended places but not said we needed to book. Eventually got into KUCKIES after a wait which was not too much of a hardship as the bar was good and the seafood was excellent. Ate in the Wreck restaurant at the hotel on Monday but a bit disappointing, the food was good but not as nice as the night before. I felt they were trying too hard to be upmarket so was not really a relaxing atmosphere.
Beach Lodge right on the coast
We had a great room overlooking the beach and it was a great location just 5 mins drive north of Swakupmond.
We highly recommend the kayaking tour with Jeanne (Eco Marine Kayak Tours), excellent guiding and great fun kayaking with the seals and we were lucky enough to have 4 dolphins right by us whilst we were in the water.
We had an excellent meal at The Wreck, the restaurant at the Beach Lodge, well worth dining there, although closed on Sunday evenings.
The receptionist was not hugely helpful when we arrived which was slightly annoying, we needed to ask various questions with regard to internet, breakfast boxes, receiving a fax for our tour from Jeanne and some information was incorrect.
Beach Lodge review
Nice, clean and great seaside location (although a short drive from city centre). Great restaurant! Staff very helpful when booking activities.

I wasn't really looking forward to staying here as I thought it looked a little scary from the flier we'd been given, but it was actually fabulous!, a real surprise.
Reception very kindly gave us a family suite and it was superb! Oodles of space, kitchenette, two balconies, fabulous bathroom (well two actually!) and of course the restaurant there is tremendous and very very good value for money.
There was also a wood burning stove-type unit in one of the rooms which we absolutely loved. You have to supply your own wood & firelighters though, which of course isn't a problem at all.
Lovely location with excellent restaurant
The road from Sossusvlei to Swapokmund was by far the worst we travelled on in Namibia which resulted in us arriving at Beach Lodge just as the sun was setting. Glorious view from the front of the hotel. Enjoyed watching the surfers as the sun set.
The restaurant was busy and you could understand why when you tasted the food. Breakfast taken enjoying the views from the restaurant
Beach Lodge Review
Beach Lodge is a comfortable 'international style' hotel. - intriguingly designed to look like half of a beached ship!!! We were given a ground floor room which was most convenient as our vehicle could be parked outside our door on the one side and on the other a stretch of lawn led down to the waters edge.
We thoroughly enjoyed the convenience, relaxed atmosphere and excellent food.
Luxury at Beach Lodge
A few kilometres from the town centre, the family room at Beach Lodge provided total luxury on two floors, with huge windows and two balconies overlooking the ocean, both double and single showers plus a bath. Kitchen facilities and an eating area made it possible to enjoy a modest meal a deux - quite a luxury after so many evenings spent eating in restaurants.
The restaurant provided good seafood at a reasonable price, although it was very busy and the service was slow. Breakfast was good and we enjoyed views of the ocean from our table.
Great location
The rooms were large and clean and we could walk out of the room to seating area and also to seating on the lawns which led straight on to the beach. Rooms equipped for self catering but we decided to eat in The Wreck restaurant upstairs. This was the best meal we had in Namibia, excellent choice of food and good service. And the breakfasts were as good!
Although about 10mins from Swakopmund town centre it was great to be able to walk along the beach straight from our rooms and lovely quiet situation. Would return. Car cleaning available which is great as we had to return car next day.
We arranged a day trip to Sandwich Harbour for these travellers. They commented about it:
Ernst was brilliant
The whole trip was brilliant. We spent a lot of time looking at birds, one of our interests, and then the depth of knowledge shown by Ernst of the flora and fauna and the desert itself made the experience on to remember. He even managed to help one of our party slide down the dunes at Sanwich Harbour, something she never dreamt she would do, but loved. All in all a day to remember.
