"Okaukuejo Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 24 Oct 2011
"Larger room here (accessible room) situated fairly close to waterhole. This was much quieter than expected apart from occasionally. Would more signs help? However, with many animals (including 6 rhino at one time) close to the viewing area it was the highlight of the place and even faced the setting sun for photography. Not to be missed. Outstanding.

The restarant is sinking under its own bureaucracy. You queue in reception to book, later queue in the restaurant to see which table has been allocated. You then search for your randomly numbered table and wait to be discovered by a waiter. Finally you queue for a long time to settle the bill. Good staff, no sign of management. Food less good than Halali. At lunchtime queued for 45 mins for a snack at the kiosk - Okaukuejo needs more staff. For information only - we did enjoy our stay." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Okaukuejo Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 23 Oct 2011
"Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our stay here very much. We stayed in a Bush Chalet which was a 2 min walk from the waterhole which was great. We had a small lounge area with sink & kettle for tea/coffee but no other utensils: so the option of having a barbecue would have been extremely difficult.

THe bedroom was falrly spacious & extremely clean., however the shower was a mere trickle. The let down was the resturant. Although our evening meals (buffet) was fairly good, the service was dreadful.. There were plenty of staff working, but there was no organisation. For breakfast the choice of food was very poor & again the service was below standard.

It is a pity because the waterhole is obviously a real asset for this camp as we saw plenty of animals there. We are also glad we did not pay extra to have a waterhole chalet as we noticed most of them did not have a direct view of the waterhole & there is very little privacy because of ther amount of people back & forth to the waterhole.

We were very disappointed with this camp." See all these reviews: 20n in Namibia

"Although room was clean and pleasant, the bathroom was basic and there was no hot water at any time.

Food was reasonable but unimaginative; vegetables overcooked but good selection of meats." See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia; 3n in Botswana

2 nights Arrived 20 Oct 2011
"The place is a bit crowded and the rooms wthout much style, but fully functional. The lunch and dinner buffets were not great -- recommend bringing your own food and making a picnic. There are not many options for purchsing food at the store there, so good to buy food elsewhere and bring it.

However, it was all well worth it for the proximity to the watering hole, where we saw all kinds of animals -- including 33 elephants at once having a pool party. The point of staying there is to hang out at the watering hole, which almost always had something interesting going on." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia

2 nights Arrived 18 Oct 2011
"This is a very busy rest camp and perhaps some things may not be as good as they should but , the buffet service is a bit tired and can become a 'Bun Fight' when the resturant is packed.

However most things are acceptable and the waterhole is it's best feature, it must be the best and most prolific waterhole in this part of Etosha." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia

"This camp was much better than we were expecting and having a waterhole chalet was worth the extra money as it made it so easy to just pop outside to see the ever changing wildlife.

Registration is very bureaucratic and the service was chaotic but the food was acceptable." See all these reviews: 10n in Namibia

"Crowded but excellent location"

3 nights Arrived 9 Oct 2011
"This is a very crowded location but has a very active waterhole visible from the camp.

It is also probably the best place to stay if you want to see special birds in Etosha although one of the lodges outside the Park may be equally convenient and more peaceful. It depends on travel times into and out of the Park" See all these reviews: 17n in Namibia

"Okaukuejo Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 8 Oct 2011
"It is definitely worth staying in the park as you have the advantage of viewing wildlife at the camp water hole in the evening. It also enables you to get out into the park early when the wildlife can be more active. Make sure you ask to see the sightings book as this can help give you an idea of where the more elusive animals can be.

However, service at reception and the shop is a little dismissive and it is best to be prepared for this as you will probably have been spoilt in other lodges with eager and polite staff. The waiters and cleaners were cheery and polite.

The room itself is functional with a comfy bed and small kitchen including a fridge but no cooker. AC works well and is welcome on the very hot days. Our chalet was within easy walking distance of the water hole." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia; 2n in Botswana; 2n in Zambia

"We had a very nice chalet near the waterhole. We spent several hours by the waterhole and in the park, it was a wonderful experience.

The service in the restaurant could be better. The waiters seemed a bit uninterested." See all these reviews: 10n in Namibia; 3n in Botswana
