"Okaukuejo Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 4 Aug 2010
"Apart from the slightly grumpy lady who took care of the park payments everyone at this camp was super friendly and efficient. The grumpy lady was quite hilarious, so we could not be bothered.

The room was great too, very comfortable, nice decoration and spotless. We did not have a kettle in the room when we got in, but it was brought in within minutes after we informed the reception.

And the waterhole was spectacular: we had 2 pairs of rhino battling it out for hours, with another one drinking right in front of us." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia; 1n in Zambia

"Okaukuejo Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 3 Aug 2010
"Camping at Okaukuejo was great, the waterhole brilliant and the facilities easy to find.

We were in one of the newer camping spots which didn't have the advantage of a well grown tree (i.e. not picturesque) but we were either at the waterhole, pool or driving through the park so this didn't matter to us." See all these reviews: 9n in Namibia

"Overnight stay in Etosha"

1 night Arrived 2 Aug 2010
"Okaukuejo is not an attractive campus. A lot of concrete, a lot of visitors, and an impersonal welcome on arrival. I suppose this is to be expected in a large camp, but we were pleased we had only booked one night there. Taleni Etosha Village, at Andersons gate, was a much nicer place to stay.

That said, the water hole was fantastic. There were a group of 25-30 Elephant the night we were there, together with a black and white rhino, all having a stand off around the rim of the water hole. We wouldn't have seen that anywhere else. We sat and watched for ages.

The rooms were simply arranged, but clean and with perfectly adequate bathroom/kitchen facilities.

The food was average, but fresh and plentiful. The staff in the restaurant were helful and friendly: in the shops the service was excruciatingly slow as items were not priced, and had to be individually looked up, and then stock codes typed in. We avoided shopping for snacks and souvenirs as a result.

Worth staying to get overnight views of the water hole (anyone can visit during the day), and also has the best swimming pool we found (also can buy a day ticket for this), but otherwise would suggest Teleni Etosha village and driving in from there in the morning." "lovely floodlit waterhole at Okaukuejo"

1 night Arrived 2 Aug 2010
"After the peace of Okinjima it felt quite busy here. The woman in reception was quite abrupt. We had to pay 250 Namibian dollars park entrance fee for the three of us and the car on arrival. I thought I had read somewhere that this was included in our overnight booking but I didn't argue about it because I wasn's sure. This fee allowed us to stay until the same time the following day after which we would have to pay the same again.

This worked out OK for us as we did not arrive until about 3.30. If we had arrived, say, at 12.00 we would have had to leave by 12.00 the next day or pay for another day. (Another 250 dollars). We were then passed over to another woman who checked our details, took our deposit and gave us our keys. This all seemed quite impersonal, but I guess we had just been spoilt at the previous places!

Our rooms, which were not far from the waterhole, were small but nice although the fridge was a little noisy and the kettle seemed a bit dangerous as it overheated and the handle became too hot to touch. I mentioned it at reception and they said it would be looked at the next day.

The food in the resteraunt was good - buffet breakfast and dinner - with lots of choices. The chef was very friendly and a bit of a character!

The shop on the site seemed to have a small range of things suitable for cooking on a barbeque or a camping stove but nothing that we could take into the safari park for a lunchtime snack in the car - no bread or cheese, cooked meat or fruit.

The Waterhole at Okaukuejo was amazing. Whenever we went down there, there was some sort of wildlife, early in the morning, loads of birds, then giraffe, then springbok, zebra, wildebeast. In the evening, lots of elephants and 3 rhino. My son Jack said it was almost too easy, just sitting there and watching all the animals come and go!" See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia

"A room with a view"

2 nights Arrived 29 Jul 2010
"Had a room by the waterhole which was excellent for popping out at anytime.

Tended to eat late in the restaurant so quieter then but was a problem at breakfast when fruit/cereal options very limited. Staff all very friendly - rooms small and beds not the most comfortable but quiet camp for size and excellent location." See all these reviews: 9n in Namibia; 4n in Botswana; 2n in Zambia

"A good base for Exploring Western Etosha"

2 nights Arrived 3 Jun 2010
"The Waterhole Chalet we had, had the best view of the waterhole and saw some stunning sunsets and sunrises and plenty of game, even from our bed!

Lettie in the restaurant was particulary friendly and very helpful.

The staff in the office on arrival were a little officious and it is where we encountered the biggest problem with trying to use the South African Rand and they wouldn't accept any.

Our only puncture of the whole trip was while we were parked at Okaukuejo. It was caused by a sliver of metal, possibly a knife blade. We are a little suspicious about it not being an accident.

We were surprised that there wasn't an ATM at such a large site which is also a main tourist destination point. We discovered this because of the issue s we were having with the Rands.

Our Chalet was wonderful, but again no safe. Overall very good, and had a great time despite the couple of problems." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia

"Okaukuejo Camp - OK for one night"

1 night Arrived 20 May 2010
"The room we had (waterhole chalet) was small but very clean and new.

The shower could have been more powerful, but otherwise it was OK. The camp is like a little village with shops, a petrol station, a post office, a pool and a canteen-like restaurant with rather average food.

The staff was either business-like or grumpy, but we didn't really mind as we only stayed there for one night." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"A surprise!"

2 nights Arrived 19 May 2010
"We were very surpised at our accomodation which was excellent - despite reading some poor reviews before we left. We stayed in a Bush Chalet.

The floodlit waterhole was perhaps even better than the park itself and although very cold at night [ in May]- observing something akin to the 'Lion King Prade' was exhillaring. We saw baby rhino's, jackals, giraffe and elephants as well as Eagles. Sadly, we saw no lion or Cheethah during our self drives round the park ; but Olliphantsbad waterhole and the Etosha Pan itself provided us views of a myriad of animals.

Food was ok; but again here the staff were wonderful.

The only negative was that we had not realised the camp fees were not included in our accomodation and one member of staff at the gate was very rude about this. However, overall this was a great place." See all these reviews: 25n in Namibia
